X850's prices will continually drop due to the incoming new vid cards, so basically pretty soon i bet u can get X850 for pretty cheap. Why buy a 12 pipeline card when u can have 16 pipes? The X850 beats the 1600 for the majority of the time right? The only thing good about this is that the 1600 is using newer technology. But still, X850 may be a better buy if it gets cheap enough.

I second you Wazz, IMO right now the best deal on AGP video cards is the 6800GS...

It is AGP.
It cost a good deal less than a 6800GS AGP
Avivo.

Not everyone is a gameplayer, and for those other uses this car is superior in every way.

if you want the most bang for your buck, go with the 6800 GS, it would kill this new ATI card

As you mentioned, there is an AGP version of the 6800GS, duh?
For about only $40 more, you get a lot more bang for your buck...
nVidia is going to add support for HD video formats in their upcoming drivers...

Now, the 6800GS beats the crap out of the x1600 in all gaming benchmarks I've seen so far, and there's always the possibility of unlocking the dissabled pipelines and get a 6800GT for a lot less money, no chance of unlocking the x1600 to anything, and if gaming is not your thing, nVidia's new set of drivers will let you have HD acceleration in all nVidia cards from the 6 series and up, so I don't really see anyway I would recommend the x1600 over the 6800GS IMO...

Its as simple as installing Rivatuner and checking a box to enable the pipes.
Instructions:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=1500237&enterthread=y

Enable the shader pipe first, restart. Use ATITool to scan for artifacts. Any artifacts=bad pipe. If bad, disable the shader, and enable the vertex pipe. Restart. Scan again. :rockout:

Maybe youll get lucky and the shaders will work (about 50/50 chance)
The extra vertex pipe almost always works.

i read in alot of forums about vid card companies no longer supporting AGP. I understand that the x1600 isn't the best for gaming but it shows someone still cares about the AGP market. I know that the 6800 nvidia card is one of the fastest AGP cards out, with sapphire using the newer x1000 chips, albeit with a bridge, it opens opportunity to use maybe an x1800 chip, if the sales support the idea that people are still willing to pay for an AGP upgrade . I applaud sapphire for testing the waters and hope it succeeds. I still have a couple of AGP boards and would like to try out some newer cards that support sm3 that aren't nvidia (nvidias fine but i have been happy with Radeon's for awhile). Lastly competition only benefits us consumers.

because they've stopped making 6800GT's and 6800 ultra's for AGP.
they just dont manufacture them any more. if you can actually find one in stock somewhere, by all means buy it. but its proving to be very difficult.

This is priced just lower than a 6600GT, I wonder how it compares? I gess it's a little better in some DX9, and losses in OperGL. It should have much better DVD and TV out. For this price I may try one in a HTPC.

I have seen and tested alot of video cards in my time and although the X1600 is missing what some gamers need to be happy with it the thing many of you arent taking into concideration while your bashing the card is that it offers more stable drivers, sm3.0, 512mb of ram and better heat management system. I have a 6800GS and to be totally honest it was a total waste of time and money to buy, I have had to return the card to the store 4 times to have it sent away due to heat issues and like most nvidia cards it also has issues with certian games locking up and then crashing out of game to the desktop or rebooting the system all-together and while waiting for the card to get rma'd back to me I went and purchased a X1600 as a temp replacement and all of the myths about it being slower are not noticeable by the naked eye as a matter of fact it has shown to be one of the best cards I have used in a long time for being able to run the top games as well as show all the eye candy that goes with them...I personally would recommend this card to the average gamer if they are looking for something that is a good upgrade with stable and suitable performance while running the top games...I would have to say that its a 8.5/10 unlike my 6800GS that is plagued with heating issues and constant crashes which only scores a 6/10.
