At the Digital, Life, Design Conference (DLD) in Munich, Electronic Arts announced it will be releasing an all-new free Battlefield Heroes shooter. Battlefield Heroes is a brand new Play 4 Free game from the people that brought you the multi-million selling Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2. It will be a fun cartoon-style shooter which caters to players of all skill levels - easy to pick up and play, but with deep character development. Aimed at the mass market, the game will offer a downloadable client, lots of character customization and hours of shooting madness.
With the new online model we will continually add new content to keep the game fresh and keep players engaged, while integrating player feedback in real time. As a game developer, it is such a cool new way to make games.
said Ben Cousins, Senior Producer at DICE, an EA company, that is behind this new project. Battlefield Heroes will be released for the PC as a free download in Summer 2008. Head over to the Battlefield Heroes site to keep up to date with its progress.

It appears to be like TF2. What concerns me is the micro transactions. Some of us from the BF2 genre remember the sink caused by the Special Forces edition which added a few more weapons giving some what of an advantage (flash bang in particular). In any case I also made mention of it here a little while ago.

mmmmmmmm more battlefield goodness gimme gimme gimme. :D

seems ALOT like TF2, can't they just make a bf2 with all the expansions goodies from it, more maps, better gfx (or not, bf2 isn't bad) and BIG fkin battles 100x100 players

Meh, its free so I suppose I will give it a go

So now I know what happened to the BF2142 updates last year. They were makin this and Bad Company :/

Kinda doubt that free part, there is usually too much information asked before download or you'll get ads before level loads. I'll wait for the first video :)

good positive move by EA, no doubt this will be funded by in game advertising which is perfectly fine for a free game, i for one are looking forward to it!

Oh god, this is horrible. Not cartoons and in-game purchases. This will be the end of battlefield as we know it. I hope to God this is not the placeholder for Battlefield 3.

Remember, it is EA, so there will probably be spyware, bloatware and addware included for free along with this game.

there just trying to eat into tf2 glory, although its free so i may play it, never really was a fan of the battlefield series

My thoughts exactly... I doubt it will be as successful tho.

I definetely agree!! Cartoons=kids

they will probably have a map called 2base....

Looks like a cross between TF2 and Battalion Wars 2 (Wii)

Ya know Iv seen it spelled both ways but the meaning is the same. Sick Japanese cartoon porn. Point is not all cartoons=Kids. Ever seen Heavy Metal or Wizards? Now if they made an FPS based off of Wizards with a Led Zeppelin sound track you can count me in! :rockout:

The young guys wont get that but the old fogies will.

Im 15 and I got it :(

you should see the anime narutaru (known as a CARTOON shadow star in the USA)

I just watched it, and while the first say, 5 eps (of 13) are similar to pokemon, the latter episodes have a ton of violence and sexual (rape) references... from pokemon like critters. Cartoons can disturb adults, let alone children.

yes they can like the critter christmas ep of south park it is fucked up but i laughed my ass off, although if you put violence in cartoon form then it plays down the fact that people, cell shaded people at that, get blown to bits and then because they're cartoons and are not perceived as people

Any Aussies interested in this if you dont already no it looks like its a Europe US exclusive Oz is being shafted again.
