LG DVD-RAM having problems

Hey guys.

I bought a new DVD-ROM which says DVD-RAM in my computer.

Its made from LG...the thing is..It seems to be having problems loading up CDs-DVDs...like..I put a disk in..and it wont load..I tryed this 4 times in a row with different disks and still nothing appeared?

When I restart the system with disk in the DVD rom it picks it up..but if I take it out and put another disk in it seems to be 50-50 if it works again???

What on earth can I do?

I had this problem with a Samsung there Firmware fixed it though.. Maybe check there site if there's one available ?.

Sorry for yet another post.

But I found a firmware patch that is 1.5..I have 1.3.

Now..I am unsure what this means...can you read it and tell me what I am to do?? thanks alot.

¡Ø Critical Instructions: (to be followed carefully)

1. Connect the drive as¡°master¡±by it self, on the secondary IDE controller
with no other device on the same IDE cable, making note to set the jumper
on the back of the drive to the¡°master¡±position.

2. Download the file GSA-H55N_1.05(EW).ZIP to a folder of your choice.
This download includes this¡°Read me(ew)¡±text file,
as well as the GSA-H55N_1.05.EXE program, which will auto-update your drive's firmware.

3. Close all other programs including: screen saver, antivirus and/or power-down programs.
(If these programs are not closed, they will try to engage the PC,
during the update process, thus interrupting the update and damaging the drive).

4. Check the drive to ensure that there is no disk in the tray before you start
the update procedure.

5. Go into the folder with the update file and double click the GSA-H55N_1.05.EXE program
and click the ¡°update¡± button. Once the update is complete,
you will see ¡°Firmware Update Complete¡± and then advise you to reboot the system.
You will need to reboot your PC.

The update will be complete, after you reboot your system.

Sorry would of replyed earlyier but been playing PGA 08 on expert LOL...

Check jumper on rear of drive that it's on Master. The manual should explain which is the right setting if it don't say on the drive.
Check that the drive is the only one on the IDE cable. The Master connector is the middle one on the IDE cable.

Crappy example.

To mobo |-------|----| the middle one being master and last as slave.

oh! I have one IDE in there hooked up to the DVD-ROM and a 160gig HDD. So...Would I have to take it out of the HDD?? My windows XP pro is installed in there...is that fine???

Is the DVD flash program windows or DOS based ?.
Do you have a floppy Drive ?
Do you have 2 places to plug IDE cables into the mobo ?

Going by there instructions as i have never used a CD\DVD player with a HDD due to one being much slower than the other.

And making the DVD player Master and you would have to make the HDD Master could course headaches. So it might be better to pick up a IDE cable if you have 2 ATA connectors as some mobo's only have one now.

It appears to be windows...it does not pop up in DOS mode.
I do not have a floppy drive.
I only have 1 play to plug an IDE cable in. I can only use one IDE to connect from mobo - HDD - DVD-ROM. Would that cause problems?????

That right there might be the problem. It it very adviseable NOT to put a HDD on the same channel as a DVD/CD drive, especially if the HDD is your OS/Boot!

Hi... I facing fimiliar problem to last time...
Try reverst IDE connector cable.... (the current maotherboard connector switch to DVD and vise versa)... :toast:

Ok pick up another IDE cable and set the DVD player to master and plug it in then flash as it sounds like your saying you have 2 IDE ports on your mobo...

nooo... said I only have 1 IDE port..I cant go and buy another one! trust me! I tryed to put 2 IDE cables on my mobo but there is only 1.

I cannot switch it around either because if I do I will only be able to reach the DVD-ROM and then the slave will not be able to go into the HDD

I guess I have to put up with this

perhaps I will buy another HDD soon that does not need an IDE

They fit in a PCI slot so you can connect another 2 IDE HDDS. BUT sounds like the Rosewill one has issue's wit Optical drives so it might be a bad idea to plug in the DVD player into that one..

Either research for one that will meet your needs or maybe get the DVD player replaced though RMA.

I use one of these (made by abit) for a legacy ATA drive I have:

In my old rig I was using this to connect to the SATA master on the motherboard and it worked great. It was also my boot disk.

I did it so I would not have my HDD on the same channel as the DVD drives.

If you hunt around, you may be able to find something even cheaper

my PATA HDD is my boot drive!!
