Lately, most people don't know what to think about the PlayStation3. There's rumors going around that it's getting smaller, and there are rumors that a model with an enormous hard drive is going to arrive. A conference call leaked from GameStop via IGN confirms the latter rumor. It would seem as though Sony is no longer making 80GB PS3s, and is instead focusing on making a PlayStation3 with a larger hard drive. A 120GB PS3 is coming to replace it, and will ship with a Dual Shock 3 controller standard. Considering that two independent retailers and a reliable "tipster" all confirm the same thing, we may be looking at a 120GB PS3 soon after all.

why, i mean what is the goal of making a 120gb and stopping the 80 gig its not like many people will use the damn 80 gig fully so why would u make a 120 gb, mean we have

20gb
60gb
80gb
now 120!

i mean honestly its not like people are going to put there whole itunes library into a game console hell even 60 gb is too much for me, but the dualshock 3 is the only good upgrade that makes sence

Omg...now its just going to be more expensive...

Well they are not including motorstorm, plus Sony cut blu-ray drives production cost by half. I bet that upping the hard drive from 80-120 only cost Sony like a buck. And from six axis to dualshock3...5 bucks.

120 GB... I wonder where they got that idea from...

I've read 120-160. However, Sony is denying the 120 gb rumor and telling current customers that if they want 120gb then they should update the non-propritary harddrive for the ps3.

EDIT: Didn't deny the rumor, instead Sony recommended users with the 40gb to upgrade their HD if they want the spec. This space will be needed for PlayTV coming in spring 2008.

60GBs with all the demos and videos and such you can put on there (not to mention your own movies) isnt nearly enough. Cheapest thing for me is to get a 2.5 SATA HDD and slide er in there. Then I can get my a dualshock controller to fill in the gap, plus I still get PS2 Game support.

Ah yes I agree, but with PlayTV on the horizon, people will need much bigger hard drives.

If you go to the Forums at us.playstation.com, there are many people that are already out of HD space. A lot upgrade to 120GB, 160GB, and even 250GB and they still run out. I'm close to running out as well...

But I guess if the price is right, the bigger the better.

Why don't they stick the Emotion chip back in rather than keep increasing the size of the hdd...

Screw giving me a slightly bigger HDD. I can do that myself. Put in a 10GB and lower the price.

Hard drives are cheap...it makes very little difference going from 10gb to 120gb. Because they have the same amount of "stuff"...the difference is density per platter. Emotion engine cost more, but over time...some might switch to emulation altogether.
