While just earlier today we told you that Netflix is going Blu-ray exclusive, it seems like the folks over at the HD-DVD are taking another blow. Best Buy is happy to announce a new policy: Best Buy "will give preferential treatment to Blu-ray movies and hardware when it comes to floor space and positioning in its stores." Best Buy CFO and President Brian Dunn has this to say over why they chose Blu-ray:
Consumers have told us that they want us to help lead the way. We've listened to our customers, and we are responding. Best Buy will recommend Blu-ray as the preferred format. Our decision to shine a spotlight on Blu-ray Disc players and other Blu-ray products is a strong signal to our customers that we believe Blu-ray is the right format choice for them.
Best Buy believes that their decision will help make customers "feel confident in their high-def content choices". Best Buy mentioned that they will not cease selling HD-DVD products.

Go Blue ray disk, hopefully they will have sales on blue ray players like the ps3 XD

well if i buy i gues i will be buying blu-ray :P

I honesty don't see anyone flocking to buy br players at their current price. And with newer featured models coming I can only imagine the confusion that will bring.

thats why i just bought the $179 internal drive for my PC... does what i want it to, and none of the other BS. BR is gonna kill HDDVD

That's why retailers like Best Buy make offers like...Buy "x tv" and get "y Blu-Ray player" for free. They add the cost of the player into the price of the tv, but the customer doesn't really notice it, especially when Best Buy is offering 10 free blu ray movies.

LOL, I've seen those offers and I would never get anything less then a XBR4. Which I haven't seen offering a BR player :)

As for PC use, I find it more enjoyable on the wide screen :)

PS3 is definitely going to get a little boost out of this. Netflix and now Best Buy switched? I bet that one of Best Buy's reasons for choosing blu-ray over hd-dvd is because of the fact its BLUE like Best Buy's store scheme lol :p

and only 2 of the 8 big movie studios still support HDDVD, the rest have gone solely BR

Another body blow for hd dvd they wont take much more.

Apparently, this is Sony's revenge for Betamax.

Blu-Ray > HD-DVD

open formats should always be the winner, but if you have your format and a load of cash to buy companies support then you its only a matter of time.

so long HD-DVD, i will miss you

So whats the typical price in the states for an average Blue Ray and HDDVD player?

ROFL...mention that in their boardroom meeting and they'll kick your ass out!

BR - 399 to 599
HDDVD 299 to 449

Makes you think about how colors effect consumers...

BR - 399 to 599
HDDVD 299 to 449

So HD is cheaper....so why isnt everyone shouting for HD? If they get kicked out of the race them Blue Rays wont come down much. There is not yet a very big market over here in HD..........as usual they are more expensive here and the average consumer wont pay £350+ ($725 US) for them yet.

how good are blue ray anyways?

The same as HD-DVD except with more storage capacity and a better updater imo.

thats funny, blu-ray players are upgradable . especially now that sony are launching a new ps3 later in the year to support 3 layered blu-ray disc that the original ps3 wont be able to read......

good job HD-DVD players are fully upgradable, so the 1st generation players will always play current gen disc..... but hang on....... is fading away i can't see HD-DVD any more.

sony have done a good job of marketing (or give money to studios) there getting everyman and his idiot to believe blu-ray is a better format, when the players themself are not upgradable. and yes you PS3 owning peeps, you are going to need to buy a new PS3, just like all the 360 owners out there to gain access to that extra HD blu-ray content.

funny as they only said that the PS3 was the only future proof player about a week ago....

u forgot the fact that bd also have far more insain yet useless DRM on them, oh yeah thats what we need MORE DRM.........i say down with them all and in with
HVD
Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD) is an optical disc technology which would hold up to 3.9 terabytes (TB) of information

and they are due out soon(some already are in use as backup devices or large corps)

prices will drop fast once they hit mass production levels :)

who wouldnt want 3.9tb a disk!!!
