New medical research confirms what hardware enthusiasts, gamers, workaholics and teenagers have known for a while: people are literally becoming addicted to technology. Professor Nada Kakabadse of Northampton University got concerned when she noticed people that had a serious problem putting away their phones, PDAs and other links to the digital world. Remarkably, Professor Kakabadse was able to link addiction to technology and addiction to sex. The professer found that nearly a third of everyone carrying a technological device is addicted. This is most likely because we are creatures of habit, and "can get addicted to anything that is remotely interesting." Professor Kakabadse also was quick to point out that technology got a lot more addicting since the introduction of the internet. Witty Inquirer writer Nick Farrell wonders how the professor could possibly avoid citing porn as a reason for this sudden burst inaddiction.

Aren't we all addicted to our rigs?

I have to agree with this. Just got my iphone and spent the whole day playing with it. Did not get any studying done at all...shame on me.

So im addicted to Technology and Sex who really gives a F*ck

Seriously, aren't those good addictions? Would they rather us be addicted to drugs?...

Would they prefer that we all got addicted to drugs? Seriously everybody has some form of addiction to something it's almost impossible not to. You never get rid of addictions anyway you just trade them in for different ones.

soon we can all attend TAA

these doctors are losing it, so they need a quick buck and they make up bs like this and then patent a illness to it and wham bam an other illness in the medical books....then people get all paranoid and start doping thier children on meds...its a classic move... im surprised people still get a kick out this bs

man i dont want drugs... they impair my ability to OC.

actully this isnt BS at all, I was a net addict for a long time and many others are. I was actully bad enough i skipped school to browse the net, and turned to chat rooms instead of friends ect. It is very real, but in moderation anything is fine and im happy to say i use the computer in moderation and get up and get out whenever a friend feels like doing something, but it is addicting and can be hazordus to your social life. The ones calling this fake are the addictied. Remember only an achlolic says there not addicted

another point..these doctors envy computer savvy people cause they're actually contributing to the world as whole...though mostly in the entertainment form but still, hmmm....drug addict or technology addict? seriously these doctors are losing in it..good move they targeted a mass amount of people, thats bound to get money

moderation ...i agree...but unfortunately their are those people messing it up for the rest

i'm joking about this, but i was seriously addicted for a while. Nothing helps more than a 4 day canoe trip, or a full time job... breaks the habit, so you have to set new ones.

That said, full time work lets me buy MUCH MORE TOYS!

*goes to upgrade media PC to a Q6600*

yeah a smart nerd will say take a freakin computer break lol

wait how is this compared to sex addiction? if im not mistaken sex is awesom, technology is awesom, alcoholic drinks...the similarities start to distant themselves haha

well im a drunk, acholocis go to meetings lol, but once your used to it, its damn fun also

hot as in temperatureor the other hot lol hahaha

I don't quite buy it. People like to toss around words like addiction that indicate human definciancies. All humans are subject to some habitual behavior. Addiction should only be used if this behavior begins to hinder basic functioning. No doubt thisa is the case sometimes, but in my opinion classifying someone as an addict because they would rather do that than their homework is dubious at best. Man has always enjoyed his technology, this is just the first time it is digital and on such a massive scale. Exciting if you ask me......

i have a buddy who use to be a drunk, now hes an AA adict, its disterbing........

as to this, could be worse, at lest its not drugs!!!!

Technology and sex, a man's best friends....and a man's biggest test, if sex and tech play an important role in a man's life and the man is capable of drawing limits, that man is a success.

Does anyone else note the correlation between hobbies and lifestyles and so called "addiction?"

Im addicted to working because I like money...lol

I hate people who think they can tell me what to do.
"8 hours on the computer (having fun) a day is no good for you."
But its ok for the rest of the population to go out on a weekend and spend all their money getting absolutely smashed drunk.
I choose the more economical way of having fun (in the long term anyway).

Has anyone noticed that the first alternative people offer to people who spend alot of time on the computer is to go outside in the fresh air and play a sport, like we are some sort of cave dwelling primate with lax fitness?

The reason technology is so addicting is that its so diverse. There is always something new for you to be doing. Its not like we are doing the same thing in out every day (like booting up your console and playing Halo all day). Computers teach you things, computers get you places you cant get in RL, and most importantly they let you run faster with your knife out :D

Sure does beat the crap out of a nicotine addiction
