ATI Catalyst 8.3 Available

well even the gpu temps are reporting differrent from 8.2 to 8.3 in 8.3 they seem quite alot higher? my cards never sat at 59c idle. around 40c normally

does this officially fix the DX10 and AGP DirectX Driver flaw?

This dropped my 3DMark06 by 5,239 points. That's 33%!!!!!
I'm going back to 8.2

Well, i was getting 25fps on all high 1280*1024 before this driver release. I went from 26.7fps on 8.2 to 27.0 on 8.3.

*using in game gpu benchmark

edit:

for dx9 went from 32.2 to 33.8

My numbers are at 1680x1050 all on high, maybe it learned to scale better at higher resolutions?

Ouch man... I would maybe try a complete reinstall of the drivers and really clean all the old files out...

Were the old ATI drivers having problems running DX 9 games with AA turned on?

Specifically Unreal engine games. Unreal Engine 3 uses deferred shading, which doesn't allow conventional AA to work for technical reasons, and there's a hacky way they can do it in DX10. I'm curious how ATI is doing it in DX9 though... If you understand why it doens't work, this kind of becomes a mystery.

8.3 ccc kept encountering a error on mine and had to close.I uninstalled all my drivers ran driver cleaner pro too. But then i found out it didnt delete everything.I still had to put ati in search and delete files manually in c:/windows 32/drivers it fixed the problem but tbh my 8.2 extreme G optimized drivers seem to run better than the 8.3 so i went back to that.

am I the only one that found the following awesome?:
ATI Catalyst™ Control Center: HydraVision support for Windows Vista

This release of Catalyst™ introduces HydraVision support for the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center under Windows Vista. HydraVision enables users to more efficiently organize multiple applications across single or multiple displays. High-lights include:

* HydraGrid - A new feature found in HydraVision that divides the Windows Vista desktop into user definable areas helping users to more easily move and organize multiple applications
* Hydravision Hotkeys - The ATI Catalyst™ Control Center Hotkey Manager can be used to quickly setup and define their HydraVision specific hotkey commands
* HydraVision Virtual desktops - Users can configure up to 9 virtual desktops, enabling users to manage and group multiple applications across user defined desktops. Application positions, desktop associations and display settings can be saved for every virtual desktop
* HydraVision Wizard - Using the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center Wizard, users can very quickly configure their HyrdaVision settings

so far, i've found these drivers fixed my Hellgate London fluttering issue. Also gave me a 5fps increase in there

Installing for me was a pain in the A$$!! Uninstalled, rebooted, then tried to install these 8.3. When booting back up I get a BSOD and reboot. Went into safe mode and uninstalled them thinking it was the IDE driver since I have a AMD 580X chipset so tried again without the IDE drivers being installed. Same thing. Tried again but before rebooting checked out device manager. The damn display driver wasn't installing. Manually installed the display driver, rebooted, and now all is fine. I have to go to bed but I'll play with them tomorrow.

liking this update, i got a good performance increase. about 5-7 more fps in UT3 at about 40fps average with max settings. my 3dmark05 score went up about 500 points and 06 about 300. my gpu also didn't run as hot during the tests either. :toast:

trog

btw I know no one replied to my comment about HydraVision, but guys you gotta check it out, it's so freakin convenient, especially if you have a larger display/multiple displays!

so hows AGP support?

Just as excellent as before, one would think...

Now, a possibly dumb question: am I the only one who just smacks in the new drivers, without uninstalling the old first?

UT3: Suspense
31 bots
1680x1050
All graphical settings are max'd
Actual in game play, not a time demo

No AA (look at cabling and edge of roofs)

4xAA Box (look at cabling and edge of roofs)

I'll tell you why you dropped 5000 3d marks. Its because this new driver is not enabling X-Fire support. Its not working on mine either. I am running xp pro and 3870x2

Went from 18200 to 13100. Crap driver!

You are supposed to enable Cat Ai to enable X-Fire but this does not work.

I don't know why its disabled but I cant find out why??

Any one know why??? 8.2's are fine!

I did it thinking the 8.1 Hotfix was just a hotfix and not a full blown driver, I ended up reinstalling the Hotfix by itself and no more graphical choppiness occurred.

Id just like to know if this Driver is also AGP capable without the Direct X flaw that occurrs in 7.8-8.2.

How do you know this? It sounds plausible as i went from 17644 to 13300.

I do the same. I never have problems either. I got a fairly large performance boost from 8.2 to 8.3 :)

Yeah, I think because the UT3 lighting method doesn't support anti-aliasing the way ATI forced it makes the FPS take a pretty hefty hit, it looks good, but on an X1900XT even 2x is too much of a hit to play comfortably being it's the fast paced shooter that it is.

Cant give exact frames, but UT3 now plays alot smoother (was running at 4 qual setting). 4x AA with 1920x1200 res with 5 qual setting is playable. :)

EDIT: Except in the character creation screen, thats just plain choppy as heck.

Just went from XP pro to Vista 64bit ultimate and I must say that 8.3 are really good compared to the Xp version. All my games seem to run a lot more consistently and WIC and Crysis run much better. I haven't run any benches but I can see an improvement.
