Im thinking A either new 8800GS from ebay, the 580M for 119 after MIR (which i always do) or a 9600GT.

That's a good deal on the 8800gs, though you will get better performance out of the 9600gt. Not a huge difference, but noticeable in benchmarks.

I did manage to get ahold of a friend and later today am picking up his 5200pci card i sold him about a month ago. So i can at least play CSS, but i can guess COD4/TF2 are no goes

Hasn't 8800 GS 768M come out yet? If yes and is around $160, get that. Or XFX/EVGA have OC'ed 9600 GT, they would go good, at least way better than a X1900.

Sorry to say, but the absolute fastest card under 200 dollars that you could possibly get is the Superclocked EVGA 9600GT. It is the fastest 9600GT on the market, and smokes any 3750 in any benchmark. This card also has the highest performance/$, and beats every other 9600GT benchmarks 10+/-5%, so, as a factual statement, the 9600GT is the fastest card you can afford at just $179. You will also be able to utilize EVGAs Step Up program, whereas you can trade your evga card in for FULL MSRP on another more expensive card, lets say, a 9800GTX or GX2? The Step Up program does have to be utilized in 3 months, but that is a long time. No, I do not work for nvidia. Or EVGA.

lol im an evga fan myself i got XFX last time cause the evga wasnt out, i conside XFX last resort before using something like PNY

and pre oc'd is worthless to me really, i prefer to do the work myself

Actually, this isnt just a BIOS overclock, by factory overclock, the hardware is actually overclocked, meaning that it can be overclocked further. It is at probably 10-12% above its base clock, and you could probably get a good 30% from the base 9600GT clock, meanwhile probably only gaining 15-18% out of a regular card.

Not exactly true, some people have experienced less overclock than a regular 9600gt with the already overclocked evga 9600gt ssc.

if you're after a cheap holdover, look for an x1650pro. you can find bargains on them ($50 for 256MB if you look hard) and they support SM3.0.

you were probably right, what I was saying was pure speculation/specifications facts, not actual trials of overclocking the EVGA 9600GT, however it still stomps every other 9600GT at stock speeds, even the 1GB version, by a pretty wide margin. The 8800gs only does DX10, which isnt a huge problem, because 10.1 is mostly minimal updates, but I also like the newer card, and the higher technology, not to mention the 9xxx series still has yet to see performance increases that it will receive in drivers to come.

Also, his performance is not related to video card issues. If you look closer, the bottleneck in his system is his 667 1gb ram. I havent had 667 ram for about 4 years, not to mention only 1 gb and trying to play high end games? or the highest end game there is anyway.
the 7600GS is a lie, you cant play it on low if you wanted to, I think the 7600gs gets about 4fps on low at 1024x768. Its only playable if you enjoy slide shows.

Dude, replace the psu already. In your other thread you were saying you killed a 8 series nVidia card, now this ATi card gave up the ghost. What the ....? Time for a new psu with juice to spare, imo, then a new card.
