Experts are claiming that a business partnership between Google and Yahoo! could be more heavily criticised by US and EU competition regulators than a merger between Microsoft and Yahoo!. Aaron Edlin, who teaches law and economics at the University of California at Berkeley said:
The Justice Department would certainly want to take a serious look at that because it would mean that a firm that would want to take advertisements or to place advertisements (online) would have only one place to go.
Google was the top search engine in February, accounting for 59.2% of US web searches, with Yahoo! and Microsoft lagging behind on 21.6% and 9.6% respectively. Microsoft has proposed a $42 billion takeover bid for Yahoo! in an attempt to combat this dominance, although Yahoo! has so far refused to accept the deal.

This is a very interesting one alot of ppl nock ms but from a legal point of view it may be seen in a better way then Google and Yahoo. At the end of the day whatever happens it will see one empire expanding its infulence.

I wouldnt mind one bit if Google and Yahoo merged. I dont think MS needs to be the king dingaling of everything computer related. Thats just my opinion though.

I don't like this "Google taking over the world" stuff one bit

This is exactly what I told you anti-MS socialist MTV sheep w/no business sense. Yahoo + Google = Monopoly of the internet. No thanks!

Sorry, forgot to say thanks to Triprift for sending this in :o

Web-search isn't the only product Yahoo! offers. So I'd still say, to combat the dominance of Microsoft in the IT industry as a whole, Google-Yahoo! is better than Microsoft Yahoo!.

Whether this deal will be investigated in the EU: Maybe not.

Whether this deal will be investigated in the US: Depends on who has more money.

Let me guess, though -- you have no problem with MS's monopoly of PC's. :shadedshu

Either way your gonna have a monopoly.

i love google! never much cared for yahoo tbh im just surprised Ms didnt go after google in the first place

You can bet your ass the EU will investigate this. The EU are the biggest bunch of babies on the planet. They'll sue anyone or anything for any reason.

MSs monopoly sux balls dude, but they're losing their grip. Thanx to apple, Windows is becoming a nice platform. I never have to restart my PC anymore due to locking up much unlike my chick's mac. Thankx to mac, Windows 'just works' now.

If Google buys Yahoo, the internet will be the new Windows ME in a few years. Every page on the internet will be so full of text ads I'll want to kill myself.

Dont know about anyone else, but I would be interested to see what google/yahoo! would bring to the future of the internet.
