Industry sources confirm that Microsoft will be cutting the prices of its popular Xbox 360 gaming console variant, the 20GB Pro by US $50, bringing it down to US $299. A major retailer said that this move would come in before E3 which runs July 15-17 in Los Angeles.

The previous price-cut to this console was during the launch period of Halo 3, where the price cut from $399 ro $349. This slash is more of a ploy to increase the product's competitiveness against the Nintendo Wii while also making it a good deal over the Blu-ray-equipped PlayStation 3 in terms of market share, even so with the holiday season around the corner. While Sony could be pondering its own price cut, the consumer electronics giant did note recently in an annual report that the PlayStation 3 has cost the company $3.3 billion since its late 2006 launch because of a strategic decision to sell the system for less than it costs to make.

Aww hell, just as I managed to buy my console... meh, it's not that incredible of a drop when you convert it to Euros.

Nice I might pick up another 360 :)

Yet in the UK, we won't get this price drop...

Sweet, soon I will catch up on my halo and gta. Are they using the new proc's yet and copper cooling?

i dont think so. i dont think they will til Aug.

x360 Arcarde is already €50 cheaper than the Wii in Europe

Falcon consoles have been out for a while now. Only new thing coming is the Jasper motherboard. Also yes they do use new heatsinks already with copper heatpipe. Hell mine is a launch console that I sent in to be repaired before halo 3 released and it has the new heatsink. All 360's produced for probably the last 6+ months are falcons with the new heatsink. So again only change coming in august/october is the new motherbard revision Jasper.

what does that new motherboard equate to in terms of performance, costs, heat, etc.

I believe the motherboard was most frequently failing aspect of the xbox, and responsible for the majority of it's RRODs. I thought this had a lot to do w/ inefficient cooling, but I may be wrong.

YES !!! thnx alot for that news ?!

just when i thought my life wouldnt get any better, now they are reducing the price down by 50 bucks, thats around a weeks less of part-time work for me !! yay lol :D

anywayz, i might just go and pick myself a 360 along with GTA, Halo 3 and probably ninja gaiden and maybe nfs pro street ?!

thnx for that news, you made my day much better !!

so this is how they are gonna compete with the ps3 and wii eh?

They're still ahead of the ps3, and neither is gonna catch the wii, at least as far as sales go. It's just about that time, it's been out for what like, a year and a half. Brings sales back up after the lull.

Strategic decision my but. Even they knew that consumers werent going to pay $1000 for the console when it came out. THe PS3 doesnt cost that much to make now obviously though. There was no strategy involved in that decision it was just common sense, which is a good thing

Anyways Good for Microsoft its about time we saw them making some price cuts. Although I have been wondering if Microsoft is just scared to drop the 360 price below the Nintendo Wii at least here in the US (not talking about Europe here). Heres to hoping that they will be dropping the price of the 120 GB harddrive soon or better yet offer an even bigger harddrive for the same amount of money (I would love to see a 200GB harddrive for the 360)
