The HyperTransport Consortium released an updated specification, HT 3.1, that increases the base clock speed of the HyperTransport bus from its previous version 3.0 limit of 2600 MHz (5200 MT/s) to 3200 MHz (6400 MT/s). The upcoming 45nm processors will be given a host of architectural updates, one of them being a revised HT 3.1 system bus. Since AMD processors use a 32-bit wide HyperTransport link to the core logic, the aggregate bandwidth of the system but would be raised to 51.6 GB/s (25.8 GB/s in each direction).

This 10 GB/s increment is supposed to favour the upcoming AMD Fusion processors, where a graphics processor would be embedded into the CPU. That could also mean that the CPU could carry PCI-Express switches, effectively eradicating the northbridge. This would mean performance gains with the CPU communicating with PCI-E devices directly instead of through a northbridge-based PCI-E switch, much in the same way as integration of memory controllers five years ago helped AMD processors. It is expected that motherboard vendors have no problems implementing HT 3.1, the AMD 790GX and 790FX chipsets offer native support to HT 3.1 with 45 nm CPUs.

impressive , there is a more bandwidth too just like pci-e 1.1 and 2.0

Its supposed to be much better in communicating with internals e.g motherboard, chips etc. then the Quick path interconnect made by Intel. I only hope deneb and shanghai are already using or plan to use this as amd had first hand in developing this. it may be sold to third parties but its most deployable by amd`s technology.

Im sure they are going to implement this. they need something to help catch back up to Intel.

hmm maybe some of the rumors iv heard are not so far fetched after all hmm.

having no north bridge could be more effective but increases the price of cpus

this should be good glad i havnt upgraded yet

good news from AMD. I like the old day when K8 emerges, AMD give Intel a run for their money..

Hope the prices isn't ridiculous though

this would explain why i seen a 45nm cpu at 4 gigs.

The price increment would be made up for by the prices of motherboards. :)

not only that but one of the last bottlenecks would be gone, the NB.

No more northbridge? No more stupid heatsinks in the way of bigger 3rd party coolers. Win!

I won't be having a problem with media for a long time with those speeds, 3200 MHz is enough power to play three or four blu-ray videos on separate displays, with a legit graphics card of course. As for performance, 3DMark06 for the win!!!! :D
