So I have gotten 2 of these BSOD's in the last week or so. I know it has to do with CPU problem, and read that i should bump the vcore. But this happened while idling in windows, and it wuns at like a 1.06 or lower voltage since ih ave it set to downclock at idle and go to 4.5GHZ while at load in games and such. I can stress the shit out of the CPU and no BSOD and play BF3 and other games no problem, but at idle ive gotten these BSOD. Is there a way to slightly boost the idle core? I have it set to offset in my bios or else at 1.6GHZ which is its idle speed itll sit at 1.3v and not undervolt correctly.

Then I have no idea what to do at this point haha

I can run prime95 all day long at current settings, but thats because the voltage boosts and the frquency does as well. And I know thats stable, its just at idle i got that BSOD.

I'd turn off speed stepping, etc. I thought that was pretty much the basics for overclocking?

Are you running windows 8?

does the volts stay set and the multi still change if you manually input the vcore?

only way i can think of you keeping speedstep and your oc.

otoh you could drop the multi so its not crashing when it goes to idle?

Uh, actually, yes. THat is EXACTLY how offset works, and you be wrong. :p

idle = 0.800, load = 1.2 V, say. You set offset of +005, you get 0.805 V idle, 1.205 load.

You set +1, you get 0.900 idle, and 1.3 V load.

Offset is added to all VIDs.

Does it BSOD when at stock?

BSOD x101??? Needs more cowbell......... or Offset voltage :)

Phenom, if I was you, I'd set your system to stock, if it isn't already ,and use it for a bit and see what happens. You've recently added a fair bit of hardware(couple of SSDs, plus new VGA and fans) to your rig, and I actually think your PSU may not be up to the task, and is starting to show it's age. You've had several weird issues and crashes while playing BF3.

I concur. Set her to stock and see how she does for a week or so. I don't OC anymore however when I did and added new hardware I would always set everything to stock. Remember when you OC a system you do it in baby sets as it adjusts how things interact as you increase it. When you find a stable setting its only for that configuration. When you change any component the configuration changes therefore so should your OC.

In some cases your old OC will be fine. In other cases, what was always stable before may not be anymore. Just some food for thought.

I haven't had any crashes in battlefield 3. Other then last night when I lost internet connection. I few weeks ago I was playing with my offset voltage a bit see if i could cut back a bit, but then it didn't seem unstable. Maybe i do need to bump it up a notch or 2. its at +0.02v. Also I have power saving mode on. I might disable that, and I have Level 5 load line. should i try another level?

Like I said (and Dave before me) set it to stock man. Baby steps to solve problems. Reset the CMOS and the whole 9 yards.

If it does it again, im first going to boost the offset a notch or 2. if that doesn't work. then ill set it to stock.

ASRock board? Level 5? Try level 1, then, yep. 5 is the lowest. There should be a diagram, should show leveel 5 as downward line, level 1 as straight across...whatever is "straight across", choose.

And you were playing BF3 last night with that x101, i thought? You were in my squad, even....:p I can hop in TS any time, jsut let me know.

Its your rig. :toast:

It is, and he only games and surfs the net, not work on it, like you do. :p

OCD-man-boy.

My LLC goes from 0-10 and I set 5 which keeps voltages close to what I want them at on load. Your board maybe different.

*DAVE NINJA EDIT*

No I wasn't . I was looking at new phoens to get when it happened at idle.

I think your right Dave, read that offset affects all VID idle and load. So im going to bump it up next time it happens.and set load line to 1.

If you want to get on right now. Ill be on my laptop and my desktop will be in the BIOS.

OCD or not you and I have talked about problem solving in the past on TPU. Their are rules man! RULES! People tend to throw more power or run memtest before realizing they are not even stable at stock and its a software issue (not in Phenoms case). I just like to start from the bottom up to fix issues.

For ME just increasing this or that and the problem goes away isn't a long term solution. I need to know WHYS!
