I need a little help and information.

I currently have the 5770 for my motherboard and was thinking if It would work if I slap an nvidia 7200GS/7300SE (very old card) for monitor purpose. I only have 1 adapter for the dvi (included in the 5770) and I am currently using that one for my 22". Since I don't have another adapter, I was thinking because my old nvidia has 1 dvi and 1 vga input, I could use the other vga input for another monitor. My problems is, would it work?

both will work together for sure using windows 7, unsure about older OS's

just install both driver packages

You know I am pretty sure I have heard of people doing this before. I do think its a better solution to get another adapter though. Are you short a DVI->VGA or DVI->HDMI?

What Dub said. It is like $6 for an adapter.

my 5770 has 2 dvi and 2 hdmi and my nvidia has 1 dvi and 1 vga

I don't get the issue. A 5000 series card can run 3 monitors by itself. You have two monitors, connect them both the 5770 and be done with it.

You said you are already using one adapter, what kind of adapter do you need? Sounds like a DVI->VGA which are a dime a dozen, everyone probably has 3-4 in their junk drawers from buying GPUs- I know I do :D

And is you ask real nice, someone may mail you one for free.

Yeah? How do I do it? I only see 2 dvi's

dvi->vga. lol, okay im going to buy soon. just wanna know if it would work! :D

whats the problem, you asked if both wlll work together, they will, screw adapters :D

I would mail you one pinoy, but shipping to PH would probably be nasty. You can run a third monitor with a HDMI cable or using an HDMI->DVI

How would it work?

What kind of plugs do you have on your monitors? VGA/DVI/HDMI? Do they have more than one or only 1 type of connect for them?

Thanks but, I'm just going to buy one. :D

for my 22" it has vga, hdmi (dvi) [thats what i see at the back] and for the 2 15" only vga

Assuming your current adapter is a DVI -> VGA, use the adapter to connect the VGA only monitor to 1 DVI port, and a DVI cable to connect the other monitor. Done.

Do you have 2 cables?

^ Good idea unless he doesnt have a DVI cable. Either way, see if the adapter is cheaper or a DVI cable and pick the cheapest.

Just to verify with you. If you use a DVI - VGA adapter, does the card see it as an analog or digital connection? If it is analog (DVI-A) then he can use two monitors, but Eyefinity will not work (cause that has to be all digital).

That's another good point, my lack of ATI/AMD GPUs is exposed  He should definitely check that out.

i have 2 vga cables. oh so that means i need 1 hdmi(dvi) cable?

and how would i know if is analog?

Why do you keep doing that? HDMI and DVI are two completely different cables and standards. Like Dub said, price both an adapter and the cable and buy which ever one is cheaper.

DVI standard allows it to output an analog signal depending on its source, thus why you can use those adapters in the first place. VGA is analog signal only. Here are some links to places you can get cheap cables or adapters. Bluejeans Cable is also nice enough to explain stuff in detail about what you are buying on their sales page.

You are particular looking for either another adapter like the one you have or a simple DVI cable.
