Intel CPU running a bit warm

Hi,

I recently bought a Intel Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 and the temps run at 40C to 50C is that normal? I have THIS heat-sink on it and reapplied paste (Sliver5) I may get a new heat-sink for it later on

The way i apply paste is just a little dab in the center and the heat-sink does the rest

Check your bios and see how many volts is being sent to that cpu, When i had my old pc and a Q6600 my mobo would shove 1.35 volts into the cpu and it was way more than it needed at default speed.

probably a fan profile in the BIOS set to silent - 50C is safe, so its slowing the fan down.

i think it's safe, iirc i hit around 80C @ full load back in those days.

shutdown temp is around 105C which is still far away from 70C - yeah, mine was suddenly shuttingdown over and over again until i realize that the fan was dead, doh

CPU's have thermal throttling limit, usually at 95°C. If you keep them below 90°C you should be fine. My Core i7 920 was quickly hitting that under heavy loads with stock cooler so if Intel treats that as safe, then it's fine.
