NVIDIA is reportedly working on a major driver update that improves performance across the board on games that take advantage of DirectX 12. The company is working with major game studios to improve DirectX 12 performance by up to 16 percent on recent AAA titles, such as "Gears of War 4," "Hitman" (2016), "Rise of the Tomb Raider" and "Tom Clancy's The Division." Even "Ashes of the Singularity" is getting a performance improvement.

At its GeForce GTX 1080 Ti launch event, NVIDIA revealed that its "Pascal" and "Maxwell" GPU architectures are capable of tile-based rendering, a feature that significantly improves video memory bandwidth utilization. With the GTX 1080 Ti going on sale later this month, one can expect NVIDIA to release new drivers.

Interesting...

Hang on a second, does this mean that they have not been using it yet?

That sounds really weird, I thought that was the thing when it was found out.

good point I read an article providing proof they already were ,but hey why just let a feature slip by ,mention it ,imply new purchase necessary then sell the same thing you sold anyway cut down a bit but running faster Wow go nvidia in the innovate department.

Good news! Looking forward to the upcoming driver update then.

Nice, can't wait for the review of the driver

Is this the same automagical driver that Nvidia have been promising for over a year and a half? It'll be great if it does, but ultimately I feel Nvidia simply just has a poor architecture to take advantage of DX12.

Hey Team AMD got ReLive, let us have some "should have had this from day one" fun too.

Or Nvidia haven't had to try too hard to stay ahead on gfx. Now with Vega coming they can take their feet off the desk and do some programming.

Yup.

They've promised DX12 update back when Maxwell was the shit. So late and with Vega around the corner, I don't think I'll be sticking around long enough to see it...

Wait.....so are they trying to say that up until now they've only been pretending to provide DX12 drivers? o_O

They have always been using Tiled Rendering since Maxwell, always enabled, just never talked about it until yesterday, probably to not tip anyone off :)

With no real competition, why not keep an ace up their sleeve?

I believe you, but I swear Nvidia has mentioned this before. lol.

It could have been hardware/driver enabled all along but if the software/app/game isn't taking it into account. Its not ideal and eat cycles from what I understand from the use in mobile space (to save cycles and bandwidth).

It is a both issue. The program and the hardware/driver working for ideal outcome.

David Kanter talked about them using it over year ago, nothing official from NV and I forgot how he found out but there was a Vlog out on it.

Edit: Steevo above posted it :)

Great news, now if just AMD could work on some D3D9-10-11/OGL overhead optimized drivers, I would be so happy...
