Ubisoft teased the next chapter in its feverishly popular Assassin's Creed franchise. Named Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the game is set in the Viking-era, with elements of both the land and the sea, and a heavy overhang of Norse mythology. Not much else is known except the very first teaser shot, which shows our protagonist - an axe-wielding Viking, with the game's two settings in the background. The sea setting shows a Viking armada sailing through choppy waters in a fjord. The other depicts a pitched battle on land. Ubisoft is scheduled to make a wider reveal of the game later today.

I expect the Viking settlements to be full of Teslas.

That's only in Norway... expect some hefty amount Volvo instead...

I hope there's not a lot of boat travel/fighting. But there probably will be. :(

I can't believe they're still churning out Assassin Creed games....

I thought the original was entertaining, it was different. I really enjoyed the second. The third and fourth entry were okay, but it started to feel copy/paste (like all the CoD, BF, Madden games) and the story kept getting more and more convoluted that I pretty much lost interest in the series. I played through AC3 since it was a free game with some hardware purchase, but I had little interest in it...it felt forced and the ship battles weren't entertaining for me.

The last entry I played was Rogue (never played Black Flag because I didn't care for the ship fighting from AC3)....it took me 6 months to play through the game because it wasn't anything new that all the previous games had. The tie ins to the story felt so far fetched they were laughable.....protect Benjamin Franklin? Come on!

I guess there's still enough interest in the games to warrant more to be made, but I wonder when the franchise will finally hit that proverbial wall that can't be scaled.

I have played Assasins Creed Syndicate and Oddysey.

They don't look same to me at all. Only some parts seem similar (like synchronizing locations, climbing), but they both have something to offer. I can't wait for Valhalla now.

AC Odyssey and Syndicate or any AC game after AC 2 have the same Ubisoft open world feel. Both have repetitive useless quests just set in different historical times. The only difference is that they get more and more grindy as Ubisoft tries to push microtransactions. Same as FarCry games after 2 they are basically the same game and the last one had RPG mechanics with gear score so they can implement microtransactions in games. Look at Ghost Recon same story. All Ubisoft games followed the same formula for years because Ubisoft Paris was in charge of game design and mechanics for every single game. Now they decided to give more creative freedom to studios and delayed all future projects hopefully this will lead to better games.

I agree I loved 4 because of the ship combat, 3 because I'm a us history buff, and 1 and 2 where just fun. I tried to enjoy unity and syndicate but I just couldn't, the story felt drab and I couldn't care about protagonist at all.

Black vikings here they come

Yep, no doubt about it. Gotta make sure we hit every #diversity checkbox even if it doesn't make sense and inject a bunch of MTXs into the game. Ubi's really gone downhill over the last 5 years or so. I haven't bought a new Ubisoft game for several years.

dumtukutakum dumtukutakum..........

We come from the Land of the ice and snow
from the midnight Sun where the Hot springs flow

The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new land
To fight the horde and sing, and cry
Valhalla, I am coming ...........
