The Creative Sound Blaster GC7 is a feature-packed external USB sound card. It offers PC, console, and mobile device connectivity, an intuitive set of onboard controls, and is a capable performer in every regard. It can be accessed through a mobile app, making all of its features usable on all supported platforms.

Do the speaker settings in windows 'Sound Control Panel' get set to 7.1 or 5.1 when using the Virtual surround sound modes?

I think it was a bad idea to omit an XLR input from the design.

Is this sound card linux compatible?
Do you lose functions if you only use the android app and not the windows program?

Creative tells me that their preliminary tests show that the sound card works with Linux, although it's clear that it's targeted toward Windows/macOS/mobile. There's no desktop app for Linux (or any plans to make one), but you can access all of the features of the sound card through its mobile app (check out the Software section of my review).
