Gotta say their designs really look good
 
The Crucial Ballistix Max DDR4 kit holds up pretty well against some of those DDR5 kits. (besides the memory bandwidth tests which is expected)

Hmm. Best for now I guess if you are going for max frequency. I don't have any Samsung ICs to play with, but I haven't seen anything special so far. They are pretty rare right now. Hynix M-die is predictable. All the kits I have can do 6800 MT/s with either 1.45v or 1.5v. so those who want to save some money can get 6000 kit and OC it. I guess lower 4800 kits would work as well, but a idk for sure.

Samsungs were in all early kits but manufacturers noticed that Hynix can make higher clocks at lower voltages. Now all retail kits at 6200+ are Hynix-based. There is also one marketing factor. Hynix runs at lower CL. No matter how other timings look, clueless users always go for lower CL, even though there is a long list of timings to be considered while fine-tuning.
Btw, my 6400 Caster sample runs at 7000 CL32 and could run higher if not my quite limited motherboards. Pretty much the same results as the last 4 Hynix-based kits that I tested.

All those timings you are talking about isn't in the SPD data and has to be manual entered. Therefore the lower primary timings in a retail is general the only option for 99% of users.
 
To the people who know more about DDR5 than i do - Is this just wasted space? Could these modules have been shorter, or is something keeping them tall?

Unrelated, goddamn is it crazy to see how much RAM affects game performance - seems like most game engines prefer low latency over the bandwidth of DDR5, but the difference from JEDEC to good RAM is huge

Bare PCB height is about 44mm across the board. I think the PMIC is making these taller now. No idea why it can't be moved down a notch. I'm sure someone knows why...or everyone (manufactures) is just sticking to JEDEC specs for now.
 
A closer look at the ICs shows that these are SK Hynix (H5CG48MEBDX014J). Currently, Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix are the three suppliers of DDR5 ICs. As the months have passed by, SK Hynix M-Die has emerged as the current leader for low-latency DDR5 kits. For the time being, M-Die is the IC you want if you plan to overclock.
How does one see if a kit is M-Die?
 
Taiphoon Burner doesn't work with DDR5. In fact it can erase the SPD data lol. Don't use!. Either the in the MB BIOS you can see what ICs it is, CPU-Z or AIDA64. CPU-Z will just say what brand of ICs, but only one exist for SK Hynix right now.

Just for now though. I'm sure it will have a update at some point for support. But I've had data wiped just reading it, so has my other review buddy on another site.

Actually, the SPD timings list is longer than you think. There are like 20 timings in a typical profile, but you would know that if you programmed SPD at least once.

I've programmed SPD and XMP timings on my DDR4, and i didn't know that
It's not something important enough to most people to remember
