i have 3 sticks of 512 ddr400 can i make those run in dual channel or would i have to buy one more stick?...i have 2 installed right now running in dual channel.

Even number are required for dual channel. 1 more or stay with two.

tried 3

yeh i tried 3 and i got worse perforamce so i think i will just stay with 2 until i get another stick. thanks for the reply:rockout:

u might find u get worse performance with 4 sticks as well.. it will default to 2t memory timings instead of 1T.. 2 one gig sticks gives the best performance..

bit of a bugger having to throw 3 perfectly good 512 sticks away thow just to go 2 gig and keep the faster memory timings.. he he he

your saving grace is at least u dont seem to have expensive superfast 512 sticks to throw away..

ps.. best to stay with one gig.. your grfx cards wont play high enough resolutions for u to really need the two.. unless u need more memory for something other than gaming.. if u really do need more memory its decision time.. he he

the way mem ctrl handle the banks IS "important"

i think its just an amd 64 on chip memory controler thing.. they used to default to 333 with all banks full and dual channel.. now they stay at 400 just sneakily drop the timing to 2T.. which has pretty much the same effect.. just dosnt sound quite as bad..
