The FiiO FT5 is a new planar magnetic set of open-back, over-ear headphones which goes for a deliberately warm tonality. It makes for a fun and engaging sound which, paired with the premium build, design, and accessories, can be very compelling given the <$500 asking price.

One thing to note would be the fact that, from all I heard, with Fiio there is much less of a QC gamble. Moondrop can be hit and miss and Hifimans QC issues have become legendary by this point, so something to consider too.
My one gripe is whether or not Fiio (or Moondrop with Venus and Para, for that matter) will provide and CONTINUE to provide parts like earpads for years to come. Nothing is worse than a perfectly working headphone that you can’t get pads for, and, unlike more mainstream and well known brands like Sennheiser and Beyer, you can’t really be sure that aftermarket alternatives from the likes of Dekoni, Brainwavz or Misodiko will sprung up.

I bought at their release
- IEM 2× Fiio FD3 Pro (140€~) ; 1× FD7 (650€~)
- DAP Fiio M11 Plus LTD (700€~)
- DAC Fiio KA1-TC (50€~)

0 issues of QC. The packaging is top. Sound is not some Hifiman, Focal etc but good for the price.

Will not buy but these Fiio FT5 looks great and large suede or leather pads for the ears. Comfort is primordial if you have these on your head for 2-3h watching a movie.

For this price range~ the only comparison i can make from my collection is the HarmonicDyne Zeus. Bundle with case and differents cables.

Look similar to audio-technica 700x/900x

The FiiO FT5 is a recently released set of over-ear, open-back dynamic driverplanar magnetic headphones

FTFY
Also, 1 year warranty? I don't think it's even legal to sell electronics in the EU without offering at least 2 years. (Yeah, yeah, I know, it means you can still get it service for free if the manufacturer feels like it. I still want the manufacturer to show more confidence in their products.)

Thanks for catching that, fixed. Also yeah of course it will be two years where mandated, we usually report specs based on the US market since it keeps things consistent.

Still a lame move on their part. Your consistent reporting helps us pick out the petty ones from the crowd ;)

Better pick Sundara at 349USD

Different sound signature (more neutral-bright than neutral-warm) which can be fatiguing and you are rolling the dice on QC. So I wouldn’t necessarily make a sweeping statement that it’s better.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if Fiio also will have frequent discounts on this model, if their other audio gear is representative.

Hifiman 400SE at $109 hard to beat, for budget planar headphones....

Just saying.

Great review as usual.
