The AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE 16 GB reference model has reached UK shores, albeit very briefly and with a very low stock count—e-tailer AWD-IT Gaming PC (ADMI Ltd.) was the first shop in the region to offer XFX's Navi 31 XL partner card. Team Red's formerly Chinese market-exclusive Radeon RDNA 3 GPU has made its way West—as of late last year—but retail presence in Europe is less than inspiring. Circumstances could change—recent rumblings indicate that more custom options are incoming—GIGABYTE is readying a Gaming OC variant, possibly paving the way for a wider release through mainstream channels. PowerColor's Hellhound Radeon RX 7900 GRE OC model has also been spotted on European price comparison engines.

UK buyers were treated to an initial batch of a dozen (or fewer) XFX Radeon RX 7900 GRE Reference graphics card, at £659.99 (~$832) including VAT and free delivery. AWD-IT's listing is inactive at the time of writing, but the SKU remains as a searchable asset on their web store. It appears that curious UK hardware enthusiasts have snapped up the first round of Golden Rabbit Edition (GRE) curiosities, although the price point was nowhere near as attractive when lined up against past offerings within EU mainlands. For example, Italy's PSK Mega Store had reference stock priced at €542.66 (~$585) a piece, with a digital copy of AVATAR: Frontiers of Pandora bundled in. The XFX Radeon RX 7900 XT 20 GB SPEEDSTER MERC 310 model is currently discounted—£699.99 via Ebuyer UK—representing a very tempting higher-specced custom design prospect (going for only £40 more than the RX 7900 GRE) .

Ancient Gameplays, a PC tech YouTuber residing in Portugal, decided to acquire a "bulk" boxed Sapphire PULSE RX 7900 GRE model:

His January 2024 buying experience illustrates the sporadic nature of AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE retail distribution in Europe—he was fortunate enough to have an avenue within reasonable distance (Spain). Geographically disadvantaged buyers are limited to a small selection of retail outlets (in Denmark, Poland, Italy etc.). Interested parties can even take the extreme step of importing from China, if extra charges are not-too concerning. TPU is hopeful that these dispersal issues get resolved in the near future.

Not worth it. unless the gre is barely more expensive. the performance difference is like 4070 ti to 4070 ti super you will never feel it but you will feel 50 more bucks in your pocket after buying the 7800xt not to mention if the gre gets bandwidth limited its just as fast as a 7800xt at best in some case it can be 1-2% slower even. useless gpu. it should have been 10% faster so it sits beetween the 7800xt and 7900xt then it would have been a great card. but its just a completzely limited crippled 7900xt with extremely slow vram.

It is a card that was made specific for the Chinese (gaming) market, think of internet cafe's and such. However demand got so populair that even in the EU it started to be sold.

Can it be overclocked to get rid of those bottlenecks?

a little bit at best. no this things are in place to prevent it get close to an rx 7900xt. its impossible to get rid of it. rdna2 it was possible with more power tool but amd locked it down.

i guess the mcm design is the reason.

Only 5 to 10%. The problem with the whole 7X00 series is the removal of power control. With the 6x00 series you could use MPT which is a registry hack to simply increase the power beyond the Adrenalin slider. You can tweak a 180W chip to consume over 260W if you wanted it. It's no longer possible so your stuck with that very little 15% margin.

This was the very first rumor about the GRE. Intended for Chinese market. Not US or EU.

There are monolithic variants as well; it's also blocked. Has simply todo with either warranty or slower versions undermining faster models by adding a tweak like that.

I going to have to agree with this comment. IMHO the only reason why this is getting pushed right now is to shore up prices of the 7900XT and higher.
Come on man... This is called Price Segmentation.

The GRE a more or less a crippled 7900 XT being priced where the 7900 XT Should have been all along @ the $650.00 range.

Both AMD and Ngreedia are guilty of Price Segmentation of their video cards.

This exactly! And they made it for the market, where they can get away with as there're no "homebrew" legal authorities these companies are liable to. Ad the said market will gladly swallow any turd available, due to current circuimstances. No offense to the inhabitants of said country. But, this is what it used to be for decades.

But the worst part seems to be, that this cr*p despite how good it looks on paper, being discarded even by the primary market it was designed for. Otherwise, how this happened, that there are "excess" stocks, that seems to enter EU market? There's no way, that in the market this big, the mere AMD production capabilities would fulfill the needs of every potential buyer.
What is even worse than this though, is that the overall GPU situation is so dire outside US/NA, that gulible and desperatepeople even in EU, will gladly gobble even such shabby cut down SKU as this, with the false expectation of getting a "better" product for less...

Good job AMD and Nvidia.

Except that AMD has now announced that they're going to be $550 in the US.
That's about what I would have fairly expected to pay for the 7800XT if it had been a moderate improvement on the 6800XT, like this is.
That seems pretty reasonable, considering the market today.
Let's see how much the manufacturers overclock them, and how much they charge.
We'll know in a week.

New low by AMD. Instead of launching RX 7900 XTX refresh, RX 7900 XT refresh, they are digging further and further down the hole.
This card is so slow that it barely manages to keep the performance on par with the aging RX 6800 XT.

RX 6800 XT was launched in 2020 for SEP of 650$ - this year it will be four-year-old.
RX 7900 GRE will be launched in 2024 for SEP of 550$ :kookoo:

256-bit memory interface and slow memory will badly influence its performance and capabilities.
