I was wondering about this, since I thought that to see how my card performs I should take into account only the gpu score and ignore the cpu score (and total score).
However, compared to other gpu scores I've seen, mine is quite low.

I know the cpu score for my E8400 is realistic, but is it also affecting the score of my graphics card?

Yes, currently all 3DMark products are cpu-limited. They really have become quite useless for vga compares...I mean really..look @ what holds the WR...a dual-socket SR2...

You can see this by using a second monitor, and MSI Afterburner, too see the load the gpus are put under...even the game tests, there are many places where the gpus are not anywhere near full load...at least 1/3 of each test.

Try the higher setting, if your monitor supports the res..you should get around X14xxx. Lessen the cpu, and increase the gpu load!

I believe it affects the combine score significantly.

Synthetic Benchmarks, mean just that. For example if I were to put a PhysX accelerator in my setup I would get a much higher Vantage score. Would I get better in game performance?...eh maybee not so much?

Point being, can you play the games you like, at a level of detail that you like?

Edit: Now that I see you have a 5970, I'd say only in the few games that use multi-core setups, which they are few and far between, however increasing in number. You are bottlenecking that GPU with the CPU...
