4070ti/5800x3d stutter on all tested games so far.

Hello all probably my last time posting and I apologize for continuing to come back but I'm honestly desperate, I upgraded the rig since posting before and I'm still facing the same botched performance. I have taken a lot of screenshots/logs so bare with me specs are

ASUS Tuf 4070ti OC
5800x3d (Hyper 212)
Corsair RMX850
MSI Mag B550 Tomahawk Max Wifi
G Skill Trident Z 2x16gb 3600mhz (Not on QVL list, can this be an issue?)
Kingston NV2
Samsung 980 (non pro)
Corsair 4000D

I've tested R6 Siege, MW2, Doom Eternal, Overwatch 2 and Resident evil 2 remake/RE8 so far and every one of them have a stutter but some are a bit more harsh than others. It looks like my GPU is being gimped by something in my system or the OS itself (not too sure but the gpu usage dropping causes the stuttering)

What I've tried

Clean installed to W10 22h2 and W11 chipsets, ddu/gpu drivers and mobo drivers in that order
Updated bios to latest
Disabled CPPC preferred cores
Disabled/enabled XMP
Tested "gaming mode/quiet mode" switch on gpu
Raised power limit to AB
Reseated all parts and replugged all psu cables
Unplugged rgb/fan hub
force PCIE to Gen 4/3

The only things I haven't replaced in my rig are the ram kit and the mobo itself. Anyone have any similar experiences and any clue to what could be causing this? I'll honestly pay if we can just come up with a clue.. Haha sorry all and thanks for any feedback.

@PaulieWalnutss at a glance nothing seems super off, CPU temp is a little warm at 100W but understandable if your room is warm and you haven't done any curve optimizer.

Why does your TUF 4070 Ti run so hot? All 4070 Tis should run pretty cool in the 60s edge and 70s hotspot, especially at high fan speed like yours. Even at full 285W.

I'm honestly not sure tbh I haven't messed with any OC in AB besides the factory oc on the card. Zero rpm I think is on as well but I have noticed times where it's like 30s idle but then spikes up to 40c. I don't believe there's any software using hardware accel either but from what I posted in the ss my rig looks fine? Very odd. Would it be of use to send over a recording of some gameplay with the AB overlay up just to give a idea of the stutters?

You can, but I have a rough idea of what it's like since I had a micro-stutter issue upon upgrading to 5800X3D. However it was just caused by bad leftover firmware from 5900X and went away with a reinstall.

For BIOS, newer is not better, between AGESA 1206 1207 and 1208 BIOSes you should see which works best. No guarantees.

All I know is that your 4070 Ti runs way too hot.

Alright I'll go ahead and try those bios versions and come back to give my results if there's any changes. Yeah I honestly don't know why it's so toasty atm it's 32c I guess I'll clean install one last time as well. Thank you for replying so quick though really appreciate that will be back soon with my report :)

32C room sounds about right actually

Considering you've tried everything the BIOS is really the only thing I can suggest.

The less popular alternative is a better RAM kit - a year and a bit ago I was struggling with chronic stutters on 5900X, and I threw the whole parts cannon at it but my current B-die kit was the only thing that solved it. Can't explain why

You can try undervolting (works the same as RTX 20 and 30 series in Afterburner) but quite frankly it should not be happening at stock.

What do your background apps/processes look like? Have you tried gaming on a completely clean install without any of that garbage installed (ie. iCUE, dropbox)?

Funny you mention B die, I did a lot of digging the other night that not only my ram kit doesn't meet QVL requirements and that it was a C die kit with loose timings, I'll have to rip one of the sticks out and grab the part number to confirm but I'm kind of leaning towards it being RAM as well if the bios versions don't do anything.

On 5900X my problem was likewise with a 2x16GB of 3600 Trident Z with Hynix CJR. Since then I've been using a 2x16GB Trident Z 3600CL14 kit that's B-die.

QVL shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Oddly enough no amount of working with the CJR could banish the stutter, but the B-die never has any problems even if left at XMP. Don't usually like bringing this up because CJR has always been a good value buy and it's also not something I have an explanation for, but I see what I see.

Have you tried messing with your usual background apps (see above)?

You dont have to rip it out, just check the sticker on the DIMM.

@PaulieWalnutss Regardless of if your 32C ambient is to blame, you should try to get those GPU temps down. Nvidia usually starts steadily reducing performance when temp hits 82-84C, and iirc it works off hotspot not edge temp. Max clocks in HWInfo looks fine but cooler is always better. I think the most I've seen is somewhere between 67-70C edge on my Eagle 4070 Ti.

if the string beginning with 042 on the DIMM ends in 8820C or 8821C, then you also have Hynix CJR.

When I was still running my 5800X3D on my B550 Unify-X, performance differences between BIOSes was a nightmare. Not any less so now on Asus, but I found a sweet spot for my board and stuck with it. It's regrettable that 5800X3D has so little choice, only 1206/1207/1208 to choose from.

both ssds are nvme right?

With a hot gpu over them they are thermal soaking with them already being hot, also check the pcie bus speed
