Exactly how rare is a socket 478 and PCI-E mobo? I know its almost worthless to have one but the ones i found are damned expensive and I know getting the LGA775 with PCI-E is better.

all right I found all the forums for this complication took awhile but found most everything. I would like to find one of those Albatron PX915P4 Pro mobos. I just dont really want to spend all that money to upgrade to LGA775 mobo and cpu, but sometimes performance comes at a cost

they are pricy...and rare.

Very rare indeed, found a P4GD1 on ebay once it went for 80GBP in the end!!

yea the ones I found went for $100+!

Give up on a s478 PCIe hybrid.

I think you want a decent GPU. Get yourself a X1950 AGP, use your existing CPU, RAM, HDD, and no new OS to install.

well i did and am getting a LGA 775 and already have a X800XL PCI-E with a Arctic silencer 5 on it for $85. Just need my mobo and processor to come in, cant wait!

I hope you enjoy your new Core 2 Duo ;-)

Which m/b did you go for? Recycling DDR or need to buy DDR2?

Well on my budget Im recycling my DDR and getting a ECS RS400-A, then in about 2-3 months getting my Asus mobo and DDR2, not sure what kind but a heck of an upgrade from my 478 celeron and 9600XT.

Make sure you get a mainboard with Core 2 compatability, DDR, and (possibly) AGP. Then you can upgrade the CPU easy, and up the GPU whenever you want... to 9800 to X800 to X1950, depending on budget.

ASROCK 775DUAL-VSTA SOCKET 775

I already have a Sapphire X800XL PCI-E
