Hi All,

so long story short, bought a Asrock RX6600XT to replace my rx580 2048sp. Was ex-mining card. Guy was selling 10 on ebay.

bought, installed: doa. no fan spin, no output, no detection in gpu-z
after contacting seller, got a replacement. fan spin, graphic output, detected in gpu-z. great. installed drivers. great. let seller know was working. fired up destiny 2 (only thing installed) to test it out. working well.

until, 1 hour later, black screen. replugged in monitor to internal graphics - AMD DRIVER HAS ENCOUNTERED AN ERROR - Driver operating in safe mode.

shutdown restart. 6600XT dead. No fan spin, no output, no detection in gpu-z.

is this my build killing these cards, or are these cards on the edge of death?
B450 AORUS PRO (gpu-z confirmed pci 4.0 running at pci 3.0)
RYZEN 4650G
2 x PATRIOT 16GB DDR4 3200MHZ
450W PSU

Plugged my RX580 back in, everything is fine. Plug in the 2nd RX6600XT - nothing.

Buying second hand card is risky business and its even more so when its an ex-mining card. Most miners will beat on them till the very last inch of its life then dump them on ebay.

You got what you paid for.

They were probably cooked to death and revived via the oven method, just to die again.

u got it on ebay right? just send it back and say this one isnt working too and save up your money for a brand new gpu...
i know the pricing can be terrible but at least you know it will be new and you have warranty

Similar thing happened to me with a 5700xt sapphire pulse from aliexpress, died after 2 days. After checking there was a short inside the gpu (unfixable), got 60% refund and sold the card for $30 for parts (a loss of $18 usd in total, as i initially bought the card for 120). Sadly mining is very tough on hardware and you may receive a half-dead gpu. However its a matter of luck since there are different batches and you may actually receive a card that can last you several years without issues. Always buy from a reputable seller and read the negative reviews thoroughly. And if there are weird stains on the card, clean it BEFORE plugging into your pcie slot, because some of that "mining dirt" is conductive and it can mess up your card

No you bought a mining card. Its expected them to be bad.
As much as I want to say "mining doesn't kill cards" over the years that has been tempered by my experience to "not all miners kill cards." There are indeed miners who run their cards to the edge of death and sadly many of those cards do end up on ebay.

In these cases buyer protection is your friend. This particular data farm was obviously running them very hard. I would refund and go elsewhere or buy new if you can afford it.
