Horizon Zero Dawn went into development for the first time back in 2011. However, Guerrilla Games took a lot of time in finalizing the story of the game. More than 20 stories were written for the game with different characters before John Gonzalez, the lead writer of Fallout: New Vegas was hired.

In the game, the players will need to play as Aloy, who is a hunter and an archer passing through an post apocalyptic land which is ruled by the Machines. The Machines are actually the robotic creatures which composed of an unique metal. The protagonist, Aloy also has the capability to use different creatures as vehicles or companions in the game.

Nothing of interest to me here.

Only one out of that butch I am keeping an eye on is Horizon Zero Dawn.

The world concept interest me the most. Especially the whole robot animals.

Ghost Recon Wildlands and mafia 3 are on my list. it seems that unscripted open world games will become the future to come. like Skyrim fused to algorithm open world simulator. like real world.

I like it :) ..

Steep, Mafia 3, and Ghost Recon are on my list to get for sure.

I frankly hate open world games. They are the cancer of today's gaming industry. Sure, they are all amazing when you run them for the first time and you explore the world like crazy, but what every single time happens in my case is that I explore the stuff extensively, poke my nose everywhere and then i just forget about the main story, get bored after loads of hours and then I never finish the game. Basically, any game that was open world I never really finished. The Elder Scrolls? Haven't finished a single one of them. And when I wanted to finish Skyrim, it bugged out so now I can't even finish the main story. And it was way too long to start it from scratch again.

That's why I prefer games like Deus Ex. They have depth, they have way stronger storyline, they have tons of alternate options, but they aren't the retarded fully open world.

Everyone may have an opinion but I think calling open world the cancer of gaming is infantile. If you get sidetracked by the world and get too bored for the quest, it perhaps shows an inability to prioritise in the game?

Open worlds are awesome. They're escapist and when enriched with lore (Witcher games are a fine example) they are intensely satisfying.

Gamings cancer is money and publishing houses. Oh, and console exclusives, that's a disease right there.

Well, I could also follow just a red line and throw away 3/4 of the game. And they have no replay value because of the very same reason despite seemingly unlimited potential.

Derail. @RejZoR likes blondes better... but admit it... if there ain't one one you will would take any... even open world. @P4-630 likes them all maybe... especially ginger lol.

Currently I am replaying Mafia II. I really hope they will not screw up...

I've got a horrible feeling about Mafia 3. I loved Mafia 2 but what I've seen of the new Mafia its not looking great and now they are not releasing review samples its concerning.

I have the same bad feeling... they went too far... just as as I long for a trully classic mafia movie not the darn superhero shit. The old vibe may be lost... if they turn it into a far cry 2-3 grinder... screw it.

Title was misleading and intructions got me hurt.

Stuck penis in 120mm fan.

Oh, and console exclusives, that's a disease right there.

I was thinking this every time I saw an ad for Destiny. I wanted to play it...but no love for the pc guys.

This Horizon Zero Dawn looks like something I'd be into checking out as well....although, again it appears to be another Destiny...a PS4 exclusive title?

Ugh....:),

Liquid Cool

I never finished Skyrim, but it wasnt because of it being open world, because I became obsessed with installing an insane amount of graphic modifications and then seeing the difference they made. The most recent character I had, was probably the furthest ive gotten in the game, at least with the DLC storylines. But now ive lost that character after getting a new motherboard and reinstalling windows. Lost all my saved games. So i will probably never go back to the game.

O boy, you can waster hours modding Skyrim or doing quest all over the place. I still enjoyed that one even if I still put Morrowind above it. Even if the main last boss was easy to beat.

I am hoping Horizon Zero Dawn is good. At least be one game I can look forward to grabbing down the road once I nab a cheap used PS4. Still waiting for KH3, The Last Guardian, and Persona 5 to have release dates. Also keeping an eye on Yooka-Laylee as well.

I generally hate them too, but mostly because they (Bethsoft is as always the biggest perp here) use it as a substitute for storytelling. Tons of content, 99% of which is crap. Skyrim was pretty, but shallow as a drop of water on hot concrete. Done correctly it can be kinda satisfying though, but you need seriously good writers for that.

Horizons and Steep looks kinda interesting.

Open world games are amazing. If you need a linear world to keep you happy and occupied then you need to look at why you're playing games in the first place.

I'll probably pick up everything on this list. Already ordered Mafia 3.

Explain.

I don't mind open world in sense of Far Cry or Crysis, because it gives me freedom of approach. I could swim to the enemies around the island, I could go on a hill and snipe them, crawl through bushes, go around enemies and ignore them etc. That I do like. Just like with Deus Ex's non-linear approach within an otherwise linear story/world. You're guided through a very immersive experience, but never carried away. You still have amazing amount of replay value as well as exploration options. I've played original Deus Ex countless times and I still haven't found everything or experience all goodies or heard all dialogs.

I don't mind open world games, there should be such games, absolutely. But the fact everyone is obsessed with making their games with open world, that's what's ruining the gaming industry. Thankfully some still resist, but they'll simply have to follow the demand since everyone is obsessed with this crap. Mostly in terms of "whaaat, it doesn't have open world"!?!?!? even though it would function perfectly well even with semi open world or even almost linear.

Riiiight.

Redefine and Ubisoft don't mix well together so you can scratch every Ubisoft title from that list right away. I'm not even joking

The only game that will redefine anything (if at all) will be Horizon Zero Dawn. Looking forward to that, Guerilla Games often doesn't disappoint.

Maffia will probably be nice too. But not redefining. The rest... *yawn* 13 in a dozen money grabs that I will stay very, very far away from. And so should you.

Watch Dogs 2... LOL... redefining how to press X to hack world I suppose. This time you get to double tap or use your forehead in pure frustration of yet another Ubisoft copy/paste gameplay title. Oh wait, they added a big story and characters this time, complete with utterly annoying voice overs throughout the whole game. Redefining how to make you uninstall faster.

On Steep... probably the price will be. It will be interesting to see how many mechanics they copied over this time, probably now allowing you to scale mountain tops to discover a new part of the map *wink*

Eh... what. Open world games are actually quite lacking in terms of actual gameplay and in terms of 'good game design' more often than not. There are actually very FEW truly open world games that don't use the open world as an excuse to carry very mediocre, uninteresting filler content, (and Ubisoft is the absolute winner in that respect) and they always have trouble incorporating a strong narrative into the game world, and they almost always have balancing issues that are inherent to the game's design in an open world.

Also, gaming as a whole didn't start as open world gaming, but rather as extremely linear gaming. With your comment, you are handily tossing aside literally every classic and legendary game in existence, and that alone is extremely shortsighted... If all you play is open world, you've got one hell of a shallow gaming reference. I'll not contest that open world cán be a great experience, but it is by no means a given.

But if there is one, all governing fact regarding open world gaming, it is that in general, open world games are VERY easy and/or its difficulty is artificial or determined purely and only by means of a 'power difference' ie higher level mobs, stronger weaponry and whatnot, but NEVER in terms of a better AI or a devious game mechanic. They are absent because an open world simply cannot deliver that without using triggered events, and triggered events can only nót feel like rinse and repeat in a linear game.

WOW people still buy in to UBI hype shii think they would of learned by now. To actually think they got Ghost Recon right since the 1st one is not believable. You would think it be easy to make a updated Ghost Recon game just like the 1st one with just better graphics lol.

Watchdogs umm maybe it will have some good content this time, great idea but o boy they screwed the last one. So many other things wrong with it like how it controls and the typical lack of support from UBI.

Mafia 3 umm i will wait and see.

Umm going skip this crap only game i am really looking forward to that i believe will be worth any hype would be Divinity Original Sin 2.

The ghost recon wildlands graphics looks horrible in my opinion, reminds me of Unity which again i wasn't a fan of in my opinion. Black flag looks 10x better than Unity.
I'll be picking up Mafia 3 this week as i quite enjoyed 2 and it follows up after events of 2 with Vito Scaletta as a mafia boss which i'm looking forward to.
Horizon zero dawn im very interested in and might consider picking it up on day 1 aswell.

I want Google Earth with guns.

DX 12 of course.
