So I just dug out an old EMachine 466is out of my garage and am wondering what I can do with it (besides chucking it out)? Basically I'd like to salvage it so I can give it to my dad so he can have something to fart around with. I have stuff lying around the house and would like to know if I could use any of it in/with the EMachine or if I have to buy hardware or whatever.
Info on computer: EMachine 466is, Windows 98
32 mb Sync DRAM 256 MB Max
128KB L2 Cache 66MHz System Bus
4.3 GB Hard Drive Ultra DMA/66
40x CD-Rom
3D AGP Graphics 4MB Video
56k Fax modem
*memory was bought for this computer, not sure how much more*
I have the restore CD for it but no key, useless I know.

Extra stuff I have
CD-R/RW Drive (says nero on the install disk..?)
40.0 GB Hard Drive Maxtor
Software such as Windows XP and 98

So what do you think? Is there any potential here?
....No gaming, no Internet, if anything I would copy articles onto a flash so my dad could read on the computer in his spare time. Just basic boring stuff.
Thanks,
Stephanie

i have do say NO,its just too old:o

well what will your dad be doing i mean that rig wont be your best performer as a gaming rig :D but for internet, if 98 can have a broadband connection, itl do just fine lol plus itl play solitare like a dream :D would xp run on a machine that old tho?

Even if its just for general use? The Internet is not going to be used on it.

windows 98 does support broadband you might need to buy a broadband card thought, but all i can see is the internet

Id say for what your looking for get a fresh load of 98 on it and see how it does with the tasks your asking it to complete

general use so microsft word? and things like that? general use could ne watching films or music? it depends what he wants to do coz that rigs kinda limited

I dont know how you all feel about custom OS build. Basically what Im asking is if you guys think its wares? I know of some custom builds that would have xp running really well with the projected stats.

This is for my Dad. So games are out of the question. And there won't be any Internet involved, he can do that on my computer when he visits. But at least he'd have something to read or even watch perhaps.

Yeah id say reload it and see how it does with a fresh load. That should be more than enough for what he will be doing.
