For those of you aware of my old early days of the i7 920 escapades, you might remember that my very good C0 stepping 920 strangely would "fall" out of HT on a whim, always Device Manager would show 8 processors but every other indicator (CPU-Z, OCCT, realtemps etc) sometimes.... and only sometimes would show just 4 threads even though HT was enabled in the BIOS, on those occasions I could run Multithredded benchmarks (WPrime) both with HT enabled and disabled and get the same score which kind of supports there being a strange problem.

Anyways, long story short, I approcahed the supplier some months back about an RMA and they were reluctant blaming my "Noobness" as they had heard of no relating problems of this sort (Cmon, the average user probably wouldn't even have CPU-Z downloaded or run WPrime), as I said, Windows Device Manager always reported 8 cores when HT was enabled.

Anyway, the supplier some 5 months on has contacted me and said that they have had a couple of others requesting an RMA and on testing it seems that there were some "issues" with some very early C0 batches..... and hey guess what, the supplier is sending me a nice 930 as a replacement! It will take a couple of weeks but hey.... who cares! A new toy and multi to play with, just to increase my hardware pleasure I thought I would treat myself to a Powercolor HD5850 PCS+ to go with it :)

FS thread to pop up soon selling the HD4890 Toxics!

Nice! The supplier did the right thing. Tatty, do you plan on overclocking with the 5850? If so, do not get that PCS+. It's a non reference PCB and will not allow for voltage adjustments.

They actually got back to you on their own accord?!? I'm impressed.
Have fun with your new hardware !! :toast:

Yes I know about the lack of voltage adjustment, these days I am more concerned about noise, my main rig is ultra quiet and cool (hence my current Toxic 4890's which TBH I got lucky with as both will do 1035+ mhz on stock volts)and I would like to keep it that way, having said that, as I won't be ordering for a couple of weeks when the 930 arrives, I am open minded on the subject so I am happy to take recommendations for something that will get me well over 900mhz but not be too noisy, the PCS+ seems to overclock (on higher than reference stock volts) to somewhere between 900 and 950mhz dependant on how lucky you get..... what you think?

I know although I have been using them for years, mainly because of their customer service! The fact that my origional RMA request ticket was left opened by them might of helped.

I would very much like to hear who your supplier is, because there are not enough good ones over in this side of the Atlantic.

U lucky Bastard! i wanted one right now but me no have no MOnEY-0 right now! lol maybe august or september till i get a new processor but anyway good luck and have fun overclocking that beast i heard it can hit 4.5 gzh easily!

Well I have been a bad boy!...... beleive it or not, they have sent me the 930 without me returning my 920, I e mailed returns and have had no reply in 5 days, so I have sold the brand new 930 to a friend (am happy to keep my old 920, even when HT plays up), that has funded an HD5850 and a 6GB DDR3 kit!

Of course I could have kept the 930 but honesty would not allow me to sell the 920 as a fully working chip, this way I keep my 4.4gig overclock that I am assured of (and I do little in the way of multithredded work that 4 cores cant handle) and has allowed me free of charge to upgrade other kit.

you get luckier by the day don't you :p

lemme know how your 5850 PCS+ runs :D I'm getting one soon, also getting a 920 c0 soon... :D

Crunch, crunch, crunch!!!!! Yes, you have abused your right as a honest customer. Do not expect the same treatment evah again!

I think that suppliers in general are realizing that a happy customer can be just as potent as an unhappy customer..especially on the interwebs.

That's really nice of the supplier.

Lucky guy! That's just how karma works - you were honest, remained honest and got a good deal in the end without even asking for it! :toast: Pretty glad for you mate! :rockout:
