There is an Intel lover that loves to bash AMD any chance they get. For months this user has not understood how a person can have more than 1 PC. Well there is a reason. Did you know that CPU mining is about 4x faster than GPU mining right now. As an example a 5900x will give you up to $4.50 a day. I posted pics of my systems earlier and promised to tell you why I have so many PCs.

5800HX/3060 laptop makes about $3 a day at 53 Watts an hour for CPU and 80 for the GPU.

5950x/6650XT/ makes about $8.50 a day with 6 coming from the CPU. CPU 87 Watts/GPU 86 Watts

5900X/6500XT/ makes about $4.50 a day using 90 Watts CPU

7900X3D/7900XT No mining here but would probably pay about $12 a day.

So now you guys know why I kept my X570S Ace Max. Right now on Amazon Canada the 5900X is still $349. That means that by April you are making profit. I expect to make about $3500 a year CPU mining with my current platform but I have everything I need to build about 5 more systems.

The benefit of CPU mining is that it does not draw near what a Multi GPU mining rig will. I am using a $70 MB for the 5900x and it doesn't matter if you have 1 stick of RAM. The X3D chips are even faster and 7000 chips are faster as well. It could make sense to get into new TR if you are comfortable with getting your money back in 6 to 9 months,

The best thing is that Bitcoin is currently on the rise and has my wallet singing. The convenience store across the street just added a Bitcoin ATM.

What are you mining ? I knew monero was profitable but not that much.

Indeed it it is Monero. It would seem something has improved dramatically CPU mining.

Yummy. FOMO Pump and dump news to get you going in the morning. I'll ride the train but I learned long ago that buy and selling is more profitable.

how does a laptop CPU make 3 dollar per day when a 64 core threadripper 3990X makes less than two dollars per 24 hours without electricity cost?

Personally I think just buying and selling makes more.

133 watts an hour at current energy costs is approx $1.30 a day so net profit would be for the top example about $1.70 a day. (UK) The profit assumes of course hardware doesnt need to be purchased, if buying hardware for this I feel it collapses.

When I used to mine back in the pascal days, the money I spent on the kit to mine, I calculated if I just brought what I mined, and sold it at the first price bump I would have made over 10x profit vs the profit I actually did make. The problem with mining is you get the coins slow and gradual, buying it you get them immediately and can be in a position to take advantage of any upward price fluctuations.

What is your electricity cost?
At the optimum .08 Cents per kwh and at the least .18 Cents KWH.

I guess where you live, I have Nuclear, Water and Coal as my electric supply and .08 to .18 cents per kwh is not 133 watts in usage per hour.

hmmn...maybe I should CPU mine to offset cost of GPU folding

Newer Architecture and faster chips. My 5900X gives me double vs the 2920X. The 2920X also consumes double the power. I would not use that for mining. The new 7000 series chips should be fine though.

Zen 3 is good. It's not THAT good, lol. I have a tough time believing a 5800HX trashes a 3990X here.

Might give this a try on my 6900HS, only way to know for sure.

Power is about $0.11 here.

At best your making 0.45c on the best alt coin. Not to mention CPU mining isnt a thing for many years now.
I understand the narrative. Do yourself a favour do a profability calculator for the 5900X on Nicehash and realize that is a percentage of what you make using a Linux distro to mine.

I should get my Strix XE repaired, I have 3 Zen 3 parts that I can use.. hmm. Only thing is you have to declare this stuff at tax time now right? Ugh,

I'm more into selling organs to get some extra cash. Not mine of course, but at least I don't get that crypto stench all over me.

a 3990X should end up somewhere at 54KH/s. a 7950X just does 31KH/s. which would be $1.84 and $1.06 per 24h.

Just buying 100 5090°S to scalp should I go for 7950's?.

Jk,

This,,,, is what the OP will inspire, I hope to shit they're wrong.

Oh and have that ' Intel lover" ???!! Wtf.

I was shocked at what the 5950X Gave me. I have made over 250 well 350 with the increase in price since I started about a month ago. I was looking at the 7900X and it gives about $1 more a day than the 5900X. As I said before I am not sure what has changed but Mining is much better on CPUs now. There is not a lot of traffic about it though.

Hopefully people do research before dropping a bunch of cash just to find out it will take YEARs to break even. Nicehash is decent for those who don't want to play around with hunting for the best alt coin. Just remember that company is making money off of you as well. Nothing is free in this world.

$4.50 a day using 90 Watts CPU in Denmark we pay more than that for the electricity so it would be a non profit here. But ill guess we soon se a shortage of CPUs then and it does explain the higher demand for DDR4 (and higher prices). But would it not be even more attractive to build AM5 farming machines?

heh, you and me both. This headache ain't worth the dollars.

I really doubt this.

We pay several fees as an add on to the base price so with all that and 25% wat we pay somewhere between 2,5 and 3,5 dollar pr. Kwh in Denmark - a little less on a windy day

I would agree that it is not for everyone. I started building PCs when Ryzen was first launched. I have plenty of inventory. When I got the 5900x for $349 CAD in Newegg I already had everything I needed. That was simply buying a $40 case for the equipment. The other thing is that I have made the jump to AM5 and would not sell my X570S Ace Max and was going to use the 5950X for a build that fell through. I have spent another $110 buying 2 240mm Thermalright AIOs. So $600 to get 2 24hour workers. The laptop was my 50th Bday gift as I had always wanted a Gaming laptop but refused to spend the money it costs but it was during Covid so no trip.

There is another thing too. You don't have to spend big on anything other than the CPU. One of my rigs has a single DRAM module. The board the 5900x is on is actually one of those MSI B550 super cheap M-ATX with a weak VRM. You can see that one of the GPUs is a 6500XT that runs at 2 Watts as it does no mining. Yes you need a cooler but you could get Thermalright which to me are the best price/performance CPU coolers you can buy.

That is a far cry from a minimum $700 for a GPU that will give you (currently) 1/4 of the payout vs a $400 CPU.

You could also use this time of the year to do your build.

I just wish X399 was fast enough to justify using it but AM4 is nice and inexpensive to get into right now.

I meant I doubt CPU mining is going to take off again.
