Chuck Patch Removal Tool:

http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=cpt

"This small utility will allow you to disable/enable ATI’s Chuck Patch on-the-fly. This utility will make your life easier because you will not have to download the entire Chuck Patch driver, nor will you have to uninstall/reinstall your driver to obtain Chuck Patch’s features. With this utility the difference between the Chuck Patch and normal Catalyst is just a simple restart as opposed to a full download, install and reboot. We will also include this utility in our NGO ATI Optimized Driver for your comfort"

:)

* I personally have NO idea what this is (as I do not use ATI videocards anymore), but I figured since most of you are ATI users here? This may be of some assist to you...

I've never heard of the "chuck patch"

I've never heard of the "chuck patch"

LOL!

:)

Hey, to be blunt about it? Neither have I...

(Thus, WHY I posted it for all of you ATI folks to check out!)

APK

P.S.=> Note the "?" @ the end of my subject-line/title above? I too, was like "WTF?", but I don't use ATI equipment here anymore, so it makes absolute sense I wouldn't... apk

Evidently it's a patch that allows you to enable HDR and AA in oblivion if you hav an R5xx GPU.

This patch was big in the oblivion community for a while. The results were mixed though with it working like magic for some people and having no effect for others.

The chuck patch enables full screen anti-aliasing and also some High dynamic range lighting to be activa at the same time for the game Oblivion on ATI X1x00 series cards. All the other games don't need the chuck patch to do this. And I guess ATI has fixed this in their latest drivers as it is an Oblivion issue.

Well, this is all good now, we KNOW what it is!

:)

BUT, "who the 'F', is "Chuck""

(Many philosophers over the millenia have pondered this question... none have the answers! One of life's GREAT MYSTERIES!)

* LOL!

APK

P.S.=> Another one that's bugged me to NO end is, WHAT IS A "SMITHEREEN"? One day, a colleague of mine asked that @ lunch, & IT STILL IS BUGGING ME!!! apk

Ahhhh the penny has dropped, that explains a few things for me in Oblivion and video settings, just like me, about a year behind the rest of you!

chuck is the ati programer who made a patch to allow ati cards to do aa+hdr in oblivion dispite the oblivion makers saying it couldnt be done because of how they use the hardware to render, you can read up about it at ati's site or thru google links, the changes he made arent drastic or cheats just tweaking how the driver deals with the game>hardware enterface.

with nvidia this is IMPOSSABLE period because nv cards use the same part of the chip to do AA as fp16 hdr(most common kind of hdr) even the 600+$ each 7950gtx/gx cards cant even with 2 of them(quad sli) you cant, you get hdr OR aa :/

currently ati has the best card=drivers for windows , i wont comment on the quility of linux drivers because I DONT FING CARE ABOUT LINUX!!!!

nvida has had problems since the FX line with making cards/chips/drivers that wherent quite as good as the gf4ti and older drivers they have improved since the fx line was dumped but still i find buggs in them when testing them, some driver revisions still have the aa/af falloff bug that was 1/2 the cause of me selling my 6800gt and buying an x800pro vivo(flashed to xt pe)

nvidias 7xxx cards arent "bad" and the drivers for windows are acceptable, but honestly side by side i can see the diffrance between he image quility on my x800xt pe or x1900xt and my buddys 7950gtx and 7900gtx cards and for me i prefer IQ to a few more fps on the high end.

ati has a rep these days for having the best MINIMUM fps if not the highest fps in any given game, in quake4 my minimum is higher then his 7900gtx's his max is higher due to nvidia being faster at opengl and being partners with Id games(maker of the game engine) but the minimum is close to 10fps faster even with 4xAA 16xAF advanced AA all turned on :)
