Hi,

Brand new out of the box, it won't boot, with no video. newegg shorted me the interconnect cable for my crossfire ati (x850's) so I installed the regular X850XT with the shadow card.

Tried resetting the cpu, removing the 4 pin molex power
(gave me an 87 post code and shut down)
and doing a barebone boot with no video or drives and still get 9.0 post code. Tried different ram , different slots same results. Any other suggestions before I rma the board?

System

Abit AT8
AMD 4400+ dual core 64 it cpu
2xOcz PC3200 platinum edition 2-3-2-5
(also tried my corsairs XMS3200 2-2-2-5
Power supply is Enermax 660W
ATI X850XT
ATI/Sapphire X850 crossfire edition

All components were working ok in my abit AN8 SLI except for the crossfire edition card and the Ocz memory (new).

I can't upgrade the BIOS due to the no boot issue :banghead:

try cmos clear, switch on without cpu fan connected, board will go down with 8E, connect cpu fan, turn on again

try memory in different slots, but usually memory issue is C1

Are you sure you put the dummy card in the right slot and the video card in the right slot? THe bottom pci-e slot is the slot that is used while running single card on my ECS ka1 mvp

SEE^ I BELIEVE the at8 might need to be run the same way. also try clearing cmos and trying different dimms,. Theres only one way to install a processor i hope you didnt actually bend and pins on that cpu. When installing the cpu always look for a arrow or triangle marking on the cpu pcb and a triangle or arrow on the socket match them together and that means thats the way its meant to be installed and it should drop right into place without having to worry about bending pins . A processor only drops in one way and should never need reseating because its latched down.

Yeah, shadow card is in the slave or PCIEXP1 slot. I also tried with a single PCI video card.

Using the CPU fan disconnect trick I got it to go further (didn't have any video card in that time) but haven't been able to reproduce anything further than 9.0 with video installed. Further, the system won't go down with CPU fan missing anymore.

:(

try a cmos clear then the fan disconnect thing should work again

I suggest disconnecting the 24 pin atx plug and the 4 pin ground then plug it back in after clearing cmos.

heres a simple protocol, when a board dosnt boot,
start from scratch,
clear cmos
connect only the fallowing components PSU, processor, 1 stick of memory (the ones you know that work), 1 videocard (the one you know that works) and keyboard,
if it posts, start adding parts, when it dosnt post anymore, you have localized the problem,

if it dosnt post with psu, processor, 1 stick of ram and a single video card, you have a hardware problem, and if you´re sure that the memory is good, that the video card works, and the psu works, then the board goes back in the box, and travels home.

also do a couple for more things before you put the mobo in the box,
first of all, if your using a 120mm fan, or a 92mm fan, the rpm on the fans might be low enough for the motherboard to assume that theres no fan or the fan is damaged, wont boot, connect a 72mm or a 60mm fan to the CPU fan header and try, those give 4000-6000 rpms and will not give fan failiure errores, make sure its on the heatsink.... or you have another fan covering the heatsink feeding from a different header.

another thing is that some motherboards get a bit complicated about order of installation of dimms, try all slots with a single dimm,

if all else fails, RMA and have someone else fix it for you, whats the warranty for ?
