Ok heres the story, Our new cats knocked over a cup of water onto my wife's netbook. There wasn't much water in the cup but enough to get into the fan slots on the CPU side. well i cleaned it off and didn't think anything of it but when my wife went to use it, it will not come on. the only activity it does is when you plug it into the wall the charging light comes on. nothing happens when the power button is pressed. i took the whole thing apart and found a drop or two of water in there but nothing major. i used the hair dryer to blow it down a little but when i reassemble it, i still get nothing but the charging light. im afraid the motherboard may have died but if you guys have any help i could sure use it! my wife is mad... REAL MAD

The notebook model is Acer Aspire One d250-1026

Re: Wet Lappy

Hi Brandon,
Did some research on this one and I don't know if this is going to help or not. It is an unfortunate fact of life that occasionally your laptop might get wet. When it happens, you must be prepared to act, and act quickly.
Depending on what you did, could be the difference of the battery to ever work or not. This is what you should of done: Immediately!!!

1.Remove all power from the laptop immediately, including removing the battery. If you ran the computer for any length of time when it was wet, you could very easily fried the battery connector hub. But, I'll continue.
2.Dry all visible parts.
3.Remove all internal and external drives (floppy, CD, hard drive) and accessories, and dry them.
4.Let the laptop sit and dry for at least 48 hours in an upside-down position. Essentially, make a kind of A-Frame with the laptop.
5.Then assess the damage. .
If the laptop will not power up with battery power, use the AC cord, but be prepared to unplug quickly in the event of smoke or sparks. .If the battery won't work even after putting in a new one and letting it dry for 48 hours, then I would suggest you take it to an authorized repair shop for service.
Unfortunetly, Acer has terrible documentation and doesn't publish a service guide to consumers.

Have you tried turning it on without the battery in place? I believe Acer on some models requires that the battery be installed, I also believe the current runs from the ac power into the battery and then back out to the components on the board. You may get luck in a couple of days from now maybe whatever might still be damp on the inside may just clear up and work again. I've seen that happen quit a bit. Have you checked in the control panel to see if recognizes the battery?
Good luck,
