The Addlink X70 RGB SSD lets you control its lighting through motherboard software from all the big vendors, so you can sync it to the rest of your system. Performance is good, too, especially random and sequential writes. The preinstalled heatsink works well, keeping temperatures in check.

The RGB implementation on this thing has to be one of the worst I've seen

what the deuce ?

Pro: "Large TLC(?) cache"
Con: "SLC cache could be bigger"
:wtf:

I'm glad the temps are okay on this thing because Linus and Jayze2c have both had performance issues with different RGBLED SSDs that were overheating because of the lighting.

Nonetheless, it doesn't look like very appealing RGBLED and the heatsink is ugly AF.

Fixed to "Relatively large SLC cache"

Its 24 GB are A LOT better than the 6 GB on the WD Black, but a bit more would be better

I would rephrase the con as "could benefit from a larger SLC cache". Because, you know, as long as it's smaller than the entire drive, the SLC cache can always be larger ;)

done :)

Those LEDs probably help it from getting too cold too. Nobody seems to remember when Kingston put LEDs on their SSDs and it made them throttle.:roll:

I think they were trying to mimic the Trident Royal memory modules. Which, IMO, is also one of the shitties looking RGB implementations too, but people seem to love them for some reason.

I wonder if the RGB would be recognized by LGS.

Dear W1zzard;

I have a suggestion / request for future RGB SSD reviews.

When LEDs are set to a constant light ( white, blue, red etc without any light effects ) they are going to create much more heat than normal and this heat will hit the performance & stability of the SSD ( created heat will mess with the SSD controller ) . I have seen this occurance more than once and not everyone is going to use RGB "unicorn puke", but one single color set.

Please set the LEDs of RGB SSDs to the single brightest color level and test them like that to check how much this will effect the SSD controllers stability and performance. You might see interesting results.

I believe with most RGB LEDs, setting them to white would be the highest power usage from the LEDs and hence the highest heat output.

Interesting idea

If it is ok, I would like to send you a pm conrains links ( youtube and another review that are not related with this SSD ) which are related to speed / stability issue side. I would like to know if this is an individual issue with that SSD only, or any kind of RGB SSD has a similar problem.

When we look at the major brands for SSD models and RGB used products, we don't see this kind of product offer, thus makes me think if this is because of a choice nor a necessity for better stability/performance.

Yeah I know, when you light red, green, blue at the same time the light becomes as white. Few LED straps have separate white LED lights for better white balance, that's why I said like that ( because of the production cost, we can't see them much, but still they exist. ).
