Advice on a Widescreen or Standard TFT

Hi guys,

I know there have been various threads in the past on this subject but I dont think any have been very conclusive. (why I think this one might be I don't know!).

I will be shortly in the market for a 19inch LCD, am happy with an 8MS response, I know the spec I want but just cannot decide between widescreen or standard. I play much more games than watch movies and am not sure what (if any) are the compatablity issues with resolutions.

On Inno 3D's website (my 7900GT manufacturer) it does not mention any widescreen resolutions as "supported" although if I check the "HD" box in my NVidia control panel it then gives me widescreen resolution options??? What's that all about!

Any advice and thoughts would be welcomed in helping me come to a decision. I have heard about "strech" in games that are not widescreen supported and don't like the sound of that unless anyone has experienced it and can put my mind at rest.

I usually Play CSS, DoDs, Oblivion and BF2.

i use standard because i like it. i don't watch many movies either, and when i do, black bars are not a bad deal.

what's your price range?

Well either widescreen or standard I have one in mind for each and they are about £200 UK so about $340 I guess. Don't know how to make a poll or I would!

my girlfriend had bought me an acer 19 inch widescreen its only about 2 or 3 inchs smaller than a standard 19 inch tft but i love it most games are compatable with it so thats not a problem but i love my widescreen monitor especially for playing games like Fear and HL2
