Advice or Solutions for Noisy Inductors R9 Fury Nano . Possible voltage mod, BIOS mod or Software Mod

Hi Folks

I have a spare R9 Nano that I am fond of repurposing as a daily driver and heater in this cold winter time . However the coil whine is almost unbearable and irritating to say the least and could trigger my tinnitus and haunt me as I sleep . I understand this is a common issue with the R9 Fiji/ Hawaii cards .

I had done some google Fu but, haven't really seen any clear solutions for coil whine . There are some anecdotal threads of Down-voting to reduce the whine by replacing resistors and Wattman software mods , though no tutorial or explanation that I am confident following. I was even contemplating hot glue or silicon but I cannot imagine this working either . Personally I thought replacing the Inductors would eliminate or at least negate the whine ( I am pretty sure its the inductors ) . However I could not find the Henry rating or suitable replacements , though I am fairly skilled with an Iron .

If I can downvolt , is it as simple as flashing a custom BIOS , or using software ? Or would it have to be done through a hardware mod ( replacing resistors ) ? Even if the card is working without whine , I would still be interested in lowering the TDP/ Power consumption

With regard to the Whine , are there any Inductors on the market for these cards ( see below)?

Maybe you should stop contemplating and imagining, and just give it a try? It costs you nothing but a tube of super glue. FYI, it works. ;)

I have both nano cards, that's "R9" & Vega with lots of modifications, including experimental mods.

I don't think I can add any value to fixing coil wine in this thread as the user above has provided link to good tips how to fix. Personally I have only came across coil wine twice. My very first R9 Nano had coil wine before it died due to a accident.

I took a quick brief look through that thread & do not agree with one method where a user almost completely covered the Inductor with glue. You have to remember these things run hot, even more so on a R9 Nano, so it needs a path for heat to escape.

It's possible I never notice coil wine as I always mod my cards with better capacitors before I fully start using them for gaming. Anyway we will now find out the truth if if higher quality capacitors do fix coil wine once & for all because I have a second Vega Nano card here which does emit noise when under load.

As for swapping out the inductors, well this may work but I can carry out this test for you as I still have my very first broken R9 Nano, so thanks for the idea, I will check old inductors to see what the issue is (if any).
