I would say system files, though since it's several times the space of the pagefile I actually wouldn't know. What does Windows defrag say? (or any other defrag tool)

Pretty sure that Windows XP reserves 1.5 Gb for working on. Good Luck on getting it back!

If your running more than 1 hard drive then you should have the paging file on the second drive this speeds up read/write times up.

well i had to move all of my files on my secondary drive before i could reformat that one. then i formatted a 2070mb share on the part of the drive nearest to the spindle for fastest swapfile performance. then i reformatted the rest of the drive for storage. i am not running a 2gig swapfile so it cant be that. if you notice in the pic the swapfile is in yellow not white/green. i cant seem to figure out how to get rid of it as its using around 5GB of storage. i can understand 2 gig for overhead but hell 5 gig? the windows files themselves only take about 1.2GB but thats still to much. does anyone have a good tweak guide or some experience?

well ok i got pretty much everything running right but from a fresh boot im using 300mb out of 512.. idk what else to remove and ive disabled everything i can. currently this si how my ram breaks down. FF 46mb, explorer 15mb, svhost 14mb vsmon 14mb mstsc (remote desktop) 14mb avgcc 9mb avgemc 6mb and the rest get smaller yet. current ram usage 328mb/1481mb.
