i have been searching for the best am2+ motherboards with no recent results. everything is from over a year ago. i am looking for the absolute best am2+ motherboard and processor. im not going to be overclocking at all. the processor that i am leaning toward is the AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition (3GHz). any suggestions welcome.

I thought you liked it!? I almost got the board cause of you!! J/K Anyways, I just threw that one out cause he mentioned no OC'ing.

It was decent. I'm using a Asus 78-T right now. It's basically the 79-T with a 4+1 phase. It's certainly better than the Biostar. I'm going to give the DFI board a try in a couple of weeks.

You want the best AM2+ mobo and PII and you don`t plan to overclock funny. Is there any other way of valuing mobos besides overclocking ability ? :D
You know that AMD dedicated whole Phenom I series to you :D

I bought the Asus M3A79 and it seems like a very good board. I noticed faster load up. And an increased windows and gaming experience.:nutkick:

thanks to all that replied. i got my taxes and didnt feel like waiting for shipping. i went to my local pc parts store (us itek) and got the gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H(rev. 2.x). the onboard audio didnt work so i took it back and they upgraded my board at no extra cost. they gave me the gigabyte ma780g-ud3h. board details at http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=3004

i got an amd phenom 64 x4 9650, 2 X 2GB kingston hyperX pc-2 8500 and 2 1TB seagate barracuda 7200.11 hard drives. i decided to stick with the onboard video for now (ati hd 512Mb) i love the upgraded mobo as there is tons of ways that i can upgrade in the future. thanks again to all that replied.

Any reason the M3A79-T over the M4A79? I'm trying to decide between the two now.

They are essentially the same board. The M4A has a few extra cooling options and has built in AM3 support while the M3A you have to update the bios to get 100% AM3 support.

One of the reviews on the M4A says: "You MUST update the bios to run a phenom II, so make sure if you get this you have an old cpu you can use to update with."

Any truth to this? I don't have any AM2 procs besides the PII I would be getting.

Newegg reviews, read enough and you'll realize 90% are written by 9 year old's. The thing with AM2+ and AM3, it will boot and play games with an un-updated bios but you will need to flash it to get the full 39.5x multiplier and 100% stability. It's stable enough to do a USB bios flash tho.

Thanks for your replies.

I have the same DFI board, bought it from Shadowfold.
Great board, other than the fact you have to shut down and wait 30s before a restart (fails to POST if not).
Anyway... Great BIOS options.. I could provide screens of the BIOS if needed.
