AMD and Xilinx Stockholders Overwhelmingly Approve AMD's Acquisition of Xilinx

AMD (NASDAQ:AMD) and Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) announced today that stockholders voted to approve their respective proposals relating to the pending acquisition of Xilinx by AMD. The acquisition will bring together two industry leaders with complementary product portfolios and customers, combining CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, Adaptive SoCs and deep software expertise to enable leadership in computing platforms for cloud, edge and end devices. Together, the combined company will have the ability to capitalize on opportunities spanning some of the industry's most important growth segments, including data centers, gaming, PCs, communications, automotive, industrial, aerospace and defense.

"The acquisition of Xilinx marks the next leg in our journey to make AMD the strategic partner of choice for the largest and most important technology companies in the world as an industry leader with the vision, talent and scale to support their future innovation."

The closing of the transaction remains subject to the satisfaction of other customary closing conditions, including the receipt of required regulatory approvals. The companies continue to expect that the transaction will be completed by the end of the 2021.

It does, I just hope AMD does a better job of integrating Xilinx in order to leverage that IP than they did with ATI, they took a long time for AMD to take advantage of ATI IP (Llano was released like 5 years after the ATI acquisition). They are a better run company than back then, so fingers crossed.

If they manged to integrate the chiplet technology for FGPA. They would be able to provide whatever solution the client wants in one package.

I posted a link a couple months back. The question isn't about FPGAs. Xilinx has an IP that can beat competitors at a less total number of switches. That essentially rounds up to the best use of die space - which they deliver hands down, imo.

Not the "CPU" per se but CPU "package" & yes to both, in fact AMD might be the first to bring a major SoC with (Xilinx) FPGA, GPU, HBM & CPU some time in the near future!

ARM is open source while Nvidia is closed that is why. How would that even work?

I don't recall any significant pushback when Intel bought Altera (Xilinx's main competitor). ARM is different largely because of how dependent the world is on ARM technology, and NVIDIA's reputation for abusing it's market position to stifle competition. They aren't comparable at all.
