hmmmm... I think this would be pretty sweet. I hope so, if the rumor is actually true.

I wonder why they'd want to do that? Especially considering the great AMD-Nvidia combos (aka Nforce4.).

There was a report in MONEY magazine about a month ago that this was in the works...shouldn't be a big surprise, or much change for us power-users in the short term:cool: .

that sucks im an amd and nvidia fan
even if i have an ati video card(that was never supposed to happen):slap:

thats pretty cool... Buy an FX62 and get a Free X1900XTX!

Doubt that you will get a free X1900 ever (unless you win it)

I just hope this does not hear Nvidias relationship with AMD, Although I would buy AMD ATi just because it would all be amd.
Cheers to progress :toast:

see this seems strange to me, Like others have said the AMD - Nvidia link always seemed stronger than AMD - ATi, if any processor manufacturer would have bought ATi I would have suspected Intel since the new conroe system won't officially support Nvidias SLI but will/do support Ati's Crossfire

Not good for us users

There are two sides to this arguement. You can't conclude for certain that it will be bad, there are advantages and disadvantages.

I think the AMD compatible board will still have the Nforce chipset, but i think the ATI one will be cheaper and better, since i'm now an AMD/ATI user i like this idea

I don't believe it, I'll wait before its officially released to state my opinion.

No doubt, I agree... it is "odd"!

(But, hey: It's the "world of business" & all that!)

:)

Diversification maybe? Who knows... some "bean-counter" type must have presented it to their board of directors w/ a TON of proof of @ LEAST, potential profitability, or something along those lines!

APK

P.S.=> In any event, I hope it works out for the best for all concerned... they're out to get paid, so they can live as well as possible. Just like anyone else... apk

according to some analyst predicting rumors about rumors, nVidia will supposedly back down on their AMD productions if AMD were to buy/joint-venture with ATi.
Theres plenty of advantages for end users in this, i just dont feel like thinking of any.
shame they didn't buy nVidia, a company that knows how to make memory controllers that don't suck

1.) AMD Cant Afford Nvidia.
2.) If this was true the press release would have been today, it seems its a dud.

We're talking about AMD buying ATI. They might be able to afford that.

meh, dosnt seem as if AMD would, or should have much interest in ATi.

I would rather see ATi w/ Intel or something.
Why would AMD really even need ATi anyway? DDR3?

Why wouldn't a large chip builder such as amd or intel want nvidia or ati. Imagine an ati video card taking the 65nm leap with the rest of the intel chipsets all at once. One would call that a nice advantage.

PS: I don't believe that amd bought ati.... atleast not until i see something with a little more proof

AMD hasn't announced the aquisition, I think they're still courting each other.

Look at the competitive advantage that ATI has, and how this can aid AMD...Think more strategic than tactical.

Sure, either nVidia or ATI would probably offer similar tactical advantages in the business, but an aquisition like this has to be driven by strategic requirments.

What? AMD can get ddr 3 suppport on their own for AM3, there is Little difference between DDR2 and DDR3.
Also,
ATi has support for GDDR4 in its 1x00 cards and higher, but it was released by samsung only a few days ago and will not be but in ATi Graphics cards tell the next generation (Quite soon.).

Just imagine all the possibilities. Granted, I would have loved AMD to hook up with Nvidia, their chipsets are just better right now. (though, the new batch of express 3200s are looking quite well). If it wasnt so late and I wasnt dead tired, I could ramble on about all the goodness. Perhaps, ATI will finally get rid of that (quoting MAXIMUM PC, and its hillarious) dumbass dongle. That would be cool no?

Well AMD would have the upper hand in DDR3 memory if they bought ATi cause ATi has a ton of experiance to it, granted its GDDR3 but i doubt that is too much different.
