What exactly does it do? And how much of a performance boost does it offer?

keeps progies from crashing and also optimizes the cores so that they split 50/50 instead of 100/0 on the core load

You should just go ahead and install it. Can't hurt anything....I haven't tried gaming without it so I can't attest to it's performance boost.

It is awesome. I was unable to run NWN on my machine without ugly skipping. I installed this, and it now breezes along like a charm.

sad part is I'm downloading that free farcry and will be for the next 8+ hours so I can't isntall it, I know it's going to want a reboot

/I wonder if installing this will fix my odd issue of Windows telling me it found new hardare every boot

Just install it. It does not slow down anything. Just both cores put to work.

And also install AMD CPU driver to enable Cool'n'Quiet.

Cool and Quiet fails

Just saying

No it works fine for me. Even with Overclocking.

It ruins my overclock. C&C = fail, for me anyway.

As for the Dual Core optimizer, go ahead and install it hat. It helps many stubborn programs play nice.

Right click on My Computer -> Manage -> Device Manager, and see what drivers you're missing.

I plan to install it, I wasn't asking if it was safe or not, I just wanted to know how it works.
I will install it when I wake up tomorrow as this far cry download finishes. I can't reboot my computer for fear of loosing 1.7GB of data I spent getting over like 6 hours at 40k/sec

I got something under other divices. It's called unknown device :wtf:

C&Q = phail. I have it disabled in the BIOS.

Make sure you have other stuff in your bios shut off that you're not using. Btw, the dual-core optimizer and Opterons don't play nice together.

makes dual cores work when combined with power saving technology such as cool and quiet. The cores going into lower clocks would mess up timigs, and stop programs from fully using both cores.

Install it if on XP, ignore it if on vista.

cool and quiet working with overclocking is mobo Dependant. worked on my DFI NF4, not on my DFI CFX3200 (ati chipset)

As for the unknown driver - Google for AMDAWAY, its part of amd live power saving thing.
