Hi everyone, new to TechPowerUp here. just wanted to find out if AMD has ever fixed the random black screen issue when using display port.
My monitor is Viewsonic VP3268-4K. Prior to use AMD Navi cards, I was using RX570/RX580/RX590 with display port, worked perfectly fine without any random screen problem.
the problem started when I move to following cards:
1) MSI RX5500XT 8GB
2) MSI RX5600XT
3)GYGABTE RX5500XT 8GB
4) ASUS RX5700XT
5) ASUS RX 6600
6) ASUS RX 6600XT -currently using
when I use display port, the screen will randomly go black for a second then come back, this happens once/twice per day, this could happen anytime, web browsing/youtube, or even at the desktop screen doing nothing.
the only workaround is to use HDMI.
NO, it is not a cable problem, I used multiple display port cables, same thing. NO, it is not a monitor problem, when I use RX 500 series card or GTX 1060 card, it worked perfectly with the same display port cable.
It's unlikely the driver problem, I had these cards running on hackintosh, with apple's driver(Big Sur/Monterey/Ventura), it has the same problem which leads to me this is likely a hardware/VBIOs problem for AMD Navi cards.
I was a happy user with AMD GPU but now I am very disappointed. I am using AMD Navi Cards just because I need them to run under MacOS and can use HDMI as a workaround.
Nvidia cards are more expensive, I am willing to pay the premium but they are not supported under MacOS. I wonder if AMD is aware of this issue or if anyone has any fixes for the display port problem?
