As the year ends, one of the biggest consumer trade shows, CES, is on the horizon, and manufacturers are ready to present the work that will become real throughout the year. AMD will offer a keynote at the CES 2022 press conference, and we expect to hear more about the upcoming Zen3 processors with 3D V-cache stacked in them. However, what is interesting is that we may listen to more details about Zen4 core. In an exclusive interview conducted by Antony Leather, Forbes contributor and the person behind CrazyTechLab, AMD CTO Mark Papermaster started the hype machine by sharing that AMD will announce some Zen4 core details at the CES 2022 conference.

AMD CTO Mark Papermaster said:
With regards to the upcoming generation - I point to CES in January. We're excited to be revealing some additional details on our new product launches that will deliver phenomenal experiences and as we've said, later in the year as it progresses we'll share more detail on Zen 4 with some mentioned at CES and more announcements on it over the course of 2022. It will be a very exciting year for AMD.

Please don't use words like Phenom AMD......... Not to describe something that won't bulldoze the piledriver or have moar real cores for real men.

Use words like existing samples are able to reach XX IPC increase or XX frequency increase or XX power budget reduction or anything else.

Hopefully runs on/with DDR4.

Imagine a FX on 7nm and AM4+ socket.

Think it's gonna be DDR5 only unlike ADL.

The price of DDR4 will be same as the price of sand when it comes out as everyone tries to sell their DDR4 to switch to 5
Do you think the entry level B650 boards will be DDR5 only? Intel's cheaper boards will be DDR4 only for AL IIRC.

My next upgrade path... maybe.

Do you need the speed increase already? There's nothing I need more speed with as of yet...

It's still a year away. I'm always up for better render times while playing games the way I like to play them.

If the AM5 chip has not got DDR4/5 controller as ADL has, then they will all be DDR5 only
I think AM5 is DDR5 only.

for high refresh gamers it does matter. 12900k gets 20-40 fps more at 1080p high refresh than anything amd offers on several games

What no leaked specs here? Oh wait. this is AMD not an Intel PR...:D

Not interested in doubling power draw for fps. Give me a more balanced power ok then that's a combo I'm down for. In fact I'm not a fan of the waste Intel is pulling. We've gone full green on power conservation from solar to ev cars. I'm not in the habit of then throwing it all away on fps. That said, 1080p... lol.

Yes, why not? A memory controller, even if on package, supporting both types of memory will also be more expensive. If it's DDR5 only then both the CPU & motherboards can be "relatively" cheap.

If he won't, I'd like to retire my R7 1700 for good. Not to mention the Vega 64, but thats another level of unreal pricing...

Well here's my 12700k on COD WWII gosh its so hot must be pulling 200w+ at least. i have capped it at 120fps btw, monitor is 165. Even at 100% it does not crack 80c.

It's the DDR5 that's the pisser, getting it, and the cost of it. Maybe it will be more available, and cheaper by the time AM5 comes out.

you have a liquid cooler which is not an ordinary cooling solution. The fps cap also helps lower temp but what's the point of buying the fastest to get the highest FPS and then cap your FPS so it won't get hot?

AM5 with DDR5 only that is my bet.

It should be, especially with zen3d barely a quarter away. If I'm changing platforms DDR5 is the least I'd want, don't care about PCIe 5.0 for now!
Same here. It is a new tech and I'm sure it will be worth changing at some point but not today or tomorrow.
I'm ok with DDR4 and PCI-e 4 for now. I will be for some time something tells me. No rush.

the worlds governments are letting crypto miners use that same power 24/7, not just a 2 hour gaming session. so I mean, just depends how you look at it. humanity as a species produces nothing but waste, sadly. for all the progress we have made as a species, its all been undermined through one stupid venture or another.

That's weird thing to say when AL is more efficient in gaming than your current CPU. I guess another case of people mistakenly equating high power draw in all core AVX workloads with high power draw in games but that's not how it works. I think the 5600x is the only CPU that's better when it comes to efficiency in games. Then if you want to talk climate I'd consider idle or light usage power draw as pretty important in the argument. MCM chips always do worse here due to the IOD sucking up power.

How is it efficient in games? When the CPU is 10% load it uses less power or what exactly do you understand when you say more efficient?
Maybe lets just focus on efficient or not. Simple don't split hair please.
