If by some miracle I get lucky and get a gpu at MSRP, I really want to get the Razer Core X while it is on sale for $299. This whole idea works out perfectly for my current situation.
I recently got a 90hz OLED 14" 2880x1800 16:10 Asus Vivobook and I am never staring at a non-OLED screen for as long as I live, it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my entire life. Best $750 I have ever spent in my life, sadly it has only internal graphics, which I am fine with for now for movies/tv shoes/work stuff/light indie gaming. I have loads of indie games I can enjoy so I have no complaints. This whole idea of egpu external enclosure but super portable work laptop is brilliant and I am loving this concept, especially now that I have experienced 90hz OLED... I simply can't use any other screen, I refuse to.
Ok so here for owners of egpu enclosures here are my questions if I get a Razer Core X:
1) How much of a performance hit am I looking at, lets say I get a rx 6800 xt someday at MSRP, what percentage of a performance hit am I looking at with the the 4-lane razer core x and thunderbolt? My laptop has thunderbolt 4, which I researched and it is compatible with thunderbolt 3 products, so all 4 lanes will be used on the Core X... but that is still a far cry away from the x16 lanes on a normal motherboard PCI-E slot... any estimates what percentage hit I will get, what has your experience been, vs reviews here on TPU average FPS in same game, with same gpu but in egpu enclosure?
2) I plan to upgrade the fan of the Razer Core X, will any 120mm fan work? Can you use a 140mm fan?
3) Is there any chance they will ever make a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure with like 8 lanes on the PCI-E slot? I know probably not, I just am curious if anyone has heard anything.
