i have an older dell that has a intel 915 chipset that supports 5 and 6 series p4's but for some reason dell only has support for the 5 series chips in thier bios.

i need someone to add support for the rest of the cpus in this bios for me if possible at all.

i know a few people used to mod bios' but i havent seen them around for a while

the reason being is that the NB can only take certain FSBs and some other misc controller chips so regardless of weather or not the NB can do it other controllers on the board might not be able to do it because they are not isolated from the clock.

The biggest part of this problem is that the microcode for CPUs is confidential. Its to my knowledge impossible to get

well all the cpus in the 915 chipset list are 800mhz fsb... some are 1m L2 cache and some are 2m L2 cache. seems they didnt want to support 2m chips for some reason. they also only support up to 1gb sticks of ddr2 when the 915 chipset supports up to 2gb sticks.

As Solaris17 says, the microcode is confidential. To get someone to reprogram it for you, you would have to go talk + pay intel themselves and use alot of time, not sure it's worth it :( Good luck with this anyways! :)

award bios? if so i may be able to help

What motherboard is it? What I am asking is the motherboard brand. For example Dell uses a lot of Asus boards. Or is it actually an Intel brand board.

None the less if you have a model number from the board, you then can contact Jack at BadFlash to order the proper bios chip and either install it yourself or have a shop install the new fully functioning bios chip.

It is possible, they stole the microcode form a DH800 and applied that to a PC-Dl BIOS, it worked, but not without issues. I vote: don't bother. Buy another board instead.

can you pin mod the chip?

which suggests that Dell AMI BIOSes are not moddable. ;).

I can confirm that most dell bios from the 800/900 chipset were all special made by dell & were 99% unmodable:ohwell:
