When my backordered memory arrives  , I'm going to get a new motherboard... I was considering a CF board, but since changed my mind.

The GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 stood out in Newegg reviews as reaching some pretty high FSB in practice (someone reported stabile at 450).

Love to hear some comments or other reccomendations.

Looking for:

C2Duo support
Intel Chipset
Able to reach high FSB (overclockability)
Good memory support
RAID (but not neccessary)

The DS-3 is great for the price. But memory support had been lackluster earlier but there are BIOS updates for better memory support. I recommend corsair memory for this motherboard. It will support Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad. Im not sure about RAID but I think it supports RAIDS 0 and 1. It overclocks well. I got my pentium 4 prescott up to 3.6 (from 3.0) under stock voltage for testing purposes (3dmark.. etc.)

I dont know about ASUS's P5-B series but from what I have heard it is also a good motherboard.

Gigabyte 965P boards are amazing and clock extremely well. I would suggest Gskill or Team Group ram over Corsair since Corsair prices are among the worst. To even attempt to get 450FSB stable, you'll need expensive ram. PC6400 atleast, and PC8000 makes more sense if you're looking for crazy high speeds. I have the DQ6, but it is kinda pricey, although it does offer Crossfire and SLI support (SLI with hacked drivers). The onboard sound is also amazing. The DQ6 has DDL/DST onboard decoding and it outputs true digital sound. The DS3 still has excellent onboard sound, just not the DDL/DTS. All in all, it is either the DS3/DQ6 or the ASUS PB5 boards if you want max clocks.

no ocz ram with bios f1-2 f3 and higher is fine

best bios till now is the f5 for 4mb conroes for 2mb its the f6

the highest fsb is seen is 400 wihtout probs (only ddr2 800 ram)

voltages can be considered as stable
only 2hdds in raid possible, the other s-ata ports are used as ide ports over the intel soughtbridge

i would recommend this as a cheap good board

i personally would wait for the dfi with ati chipset

for other questions pm me plz sometimes i dont see the updates

Tigger - that link was way helpful.

I've got XMS2-6400PRO memory 2GB on the way (backordered for now). The main problem I got from the thread were USB issues when overclocking.

First plan is to put in my 630 single core and see how high it goes, then decide on a C2Duo.

I have no desire to SLI or CF right now - I just don't like the price point and the X1900XTX should suffice for a while.

gR3iF - I sent you a PM, thx
