The design reminds me of an old and weird 3-sided (well, hexagonal; 3 long sides and 3 short sides in a triangular-ish shape from above) PC that I think LGR touched on once, which was also designed for "future upgradability". Can't remember the name of the weird PC though.

I think the "(possibly rounded) triangle with the ends cut/rounded off" is the de facto shape of the future, so that it keeps coming back in poorly thought out concepts is hardly surprising.
