wow. just wow. i ordered an arctic cooling accelero around a week ago - a few delivery hiccups later and its here. Now, we all know 8800GT's are notorious for running hot, and i was getting around 50 degrees celcius on idle. 20 minutes of fiddling about fitting it later, and idle temps are down to just 38 degrees! And completely silent as its passive!

i must say, it was very alien for me to turn my computer on and not hear the single slot spinning at 100%, but ill get used to it :)

I would HIGHLY reccomend this to anyone! (will post load temps soon!)

Monster cool, dude!

Questions: which revision did you get? Is it this one?

I ordered a Rev 2 Accelero S1 for my 3870: have 2 NF-P12 ready for it to cool it WAY down. The RAM sinks i order for it still haven't as well :(

yep it was the S1 - i got a bit scared when i first opened it, seeing as my card wasnt listed on the packaging, but if you check with any reviewer they will tell you the full list (these acceleros where made before the newer 8 series card where made). just check on a review site ;)

There are 2 revisions of this VGA cooler: the first doesn't support HD3870, for example but the 2nd one does!

The cooler is HUGE, which complicates things if you plan on crossfire because of the bridges' length and even more so if, like me, you plan on adding fans.

With the RAM sinks and fans (i bought Noctua: expensive brand), the VGA cooler ended up being costlier then most currently in the market, but i believe it's worth it!

its 100% worth it - a sound investment if you ask me. But like you said, the main complications would be sli bridges and extra fans. Mines in an antec 900 so adding extra fans isnt needed, but if i did need a boost on the acceolero id buy the turbo unit for it. And the unit is so cheap! im amazed haha.

Going to play some assassins creed and record some load temps - report back soon! :D

I'm hoping it will be compatible with the upcoming ATI cards so that, when i eventually upgrade the VGA, i don't need to upgrade the VGA cooler as well. I'm hoping ...

That's sweet.

I bought an aftermarket VGA Cooler as well for my 8600gts. I bought a vf900 and popped it on there with some AS5. Idle temps were in the 60's with the old cooler, then they dropped to 40's. The load never goes beyond 60C, unlike the old cooler which easily went past 85, lol. Also much quieter. I can keep it on the lowest fan setting as well. Silent ftw :)

I am really quite surprised with the quality of the stock cooler. They really went for aesthetics than functionality.

And if you ever wish to drop the temps on your 8800gt more, you can always rig a 120mm fan on your S1 for even lower temps :D

im hoping the same - going 9 series Nvidia next year + an intel quad setup, so lets hope its future proof!

Or 2, like in my case :D

yep haha, and run it at like 800 rpm - drop it another 2 or 3 degrees.

UPDATE!

after 10 minutes of assassins creed, the temperatures at 50 degrees celcius. bear in mind that was my idle temp on my stock cooler, and load used to go up into mid 70's with it. im very impressed. and no 4k rpm 100% fan whilst playing either! :D :D :D
