ASRock 939 Dual SATA no POST problem

I would really appreciate any help with the following, I just bought this mobo along with 4200+ AMD, Gigabyte GZ-FSCA1-AN case, FSP Epsilon 600W PSU 20/24pin Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 Gig Sata 2 and Pioneer DVR-111D

I connected everything including Connect 3D x850Pro AGP and 512Mb 2100 RAM ), but it wouldnt post, no beeps no nothing, i.e. plugin in power at the back, fans spin briefly and case lights flash, then powering on in the front, all fans would spin contineously, lights stay on, but no video output, monitor power light would continue flashing as if theres no signal( GFX card works fine, put it back in my dell and using it now ).

All the CPU jumpers are correct, so i reset the CMOS and tried, but now when i power on on the front of the case, the case lights flash briefly and the fans spin briefly then absolutely nothing, its as if power off, switching power on the front again( even several times ) does nothing

I havnt got a clue whether ive now created a PSU problem for myself as well as the existing non-POST/no error beeps/no video output problem
All i can think of is taking board out of case in case its shorting somewhere, ill try this tomorrow, the only other thing i might not have done 100% is when putting in CPU i didnt pust down on the CPU as i pushed the latch down, but the latch did go down and seemed to tighten the CPU in the socket

Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

ram is wayy slow. i doubt it will boot like that. try booting it without any harddrive cd drive and only 1 stick of ram.

Ohh i know, its not the RAM im going to use with it, i have 2 gigs of PC 3200 ram, but i just wanted to test it posting, i disconnected absolutely everything apart from front power button connector, CPU, heatsink and heatsink power connector and the 20pin and 4 pin main power connectors, still the same problem, case lights flash and fans spin briefly, then absolutely no power, even flicking the front power switch several tiems-> nothing

Also the damn 4 pin power connector doesnt match the board exactly, it can connect in 2 ways, tried one, wouldnt work, so tried the other and it worked( which got it to power up and stay powered initially, but no error beeps for POST and no video output )

I can only think that the CPU might not be mounted properly( causing the no video output ), as i didnt press down on it as i was pushing the latch down, but pusing the CPU latch down did pull the CPU down

Surely if only the bare minimum is connected it should post/error beep?( i.e. no ram or drives )

take the heatsink off and reseat the cpu. then use the 3200 as 2100 could very well be causing the problem. once u are sure the cpu is in right and u have the correct ram in check if it will boot again. if it doesnt then reseat the video card and remove any other cards.

Ok, i will try that, but remember that initially it had constant power, i.e. fans and case lights would stay on while the power was on, but now( possibly after resetting CMOS??? ) it just spins fans and flickers case lights briefly, then theres absolutely no power, i have a spare 3200 128Mb stick, this should work for the post

I presumed it would post/error beep with nothing connected but CPU & heatsink and power connectors, but i hear no beeps, well actually it doesnt even power now, grrr

I may also try connecting mobo out of the case just to make sure its not shorting for some reason in the case

Do you know if reseating the CPU will mean i nead to remove the sticky pad thats connecting them and clean both and apply thermal paste, or do you think it would allow one reseating before that needs to be done?

that could very well be it. if it is cutting off then it is either a short or a missed connection. remove the mobo from the case and try booting it with no ram no video card just the cpu mobo psu and 1 fan plugged into the mobo. if the fan kicks on and stays on then u know the cpu/mobo is good. then add ram and see if it still powers on. then add video card and test again. slowly add parts until its fully assembled.

btw use the ram in it that u are planning to run with the system. testing with a small stick has no effect on a boot or no boot so just use one of the 1gb sticks. what do u mean the power plug doesnt work exactly?

Ok,its really late here at the moment :), i really appreciate your help with this, so ill have to do the above tomorrow, before i go though, do you definately think that its a short and not a CPU problem that the fans and case lights dont stay on????( as i dont want to remove CPU and heatsing unless absolutely necessary ) as fans and case lights did stay on initially but with all my tinkering trying to get a video output now it doesnt even keep the power on

Ill do as you've said with removing it from the case, whats the minimum connectors that i would need? case power switch, 20 and 4 pin power connectors, ram and obviously CPU and heatsink? should that be sufficient to hear a post beap?

just try with both power plugs/cpu/mobo no ram no videocard. if it will power on then its not a cpu/mobo/psu issue. it will not boot in that state but if it powers up and starts beeping then those parts are good. start adding in everything else after.

Ok, cool, thanks ill try that( out of the case of course as thats how it is now and nothing ), ill give you an update tomorrow, thanks again for your help, much appreciated dude, damn i should just give up any form of DIY,lol

no no diy is the way to go. ive built 5 pcs for friends and fam and had probs with every one. ive been screwed over on parts and price but thats how u learn. aftermarket parts are just compatable not "made for" like the dell counterparts...

lol, me too on price, but thats just life, im well used to changing components, but not new case/mobo/CPU/PSU, problem with this stuff is you never know whats at fault unless you can test them individually
