ASUS owns ASRock, and now they make parts just as reliable as Gigabyte and Asus.

so AsRock is the cheap version of ASUS

why didn''t they call is ASSROCK then

Nothing new. AsRock is actually a two bit company started by rogued ASUS engineers. They sub-registered the domain under ASUS. While ASUS makes more of the premium boards, AsRock was mainly to build an el-cheapo brand for 3rd world markets. Most consumers in 3rd world markets keep off ASUS thinking it's a premium and "expensive" brand. So again, a gimmick.

they do make some good boards though, a FEW

They're all substandard, a LOT of them are DOA, at least here in India.

But yes I had a crush on one of their AM2 boards based on the VIA K8T890. Awesome price/performance ratio.

A friend built a rig using this. he bought it for Rs 2400. ($60) Retail price.
Doesn't that heatsink over the northbridge look very familiar?

All the asrock boards i've used have been reliable. They may not be top shelf stuff, but if you are on a budget they are reliable enuff untill you can afford better.

I haven’t heard anything about rogue engineers at ASUS starting their own company. It’s kind of hilarious to think a bunch of engineers sitting around saying “let’s go rogue and build a bunch of budget mobos!”

ASrock is a subsidiary of ASUS. They make budget, “value-oriented” boards – think of them as a ECS or Foxconn type company.

Generally, their boards are ok. They offer good boards for the price.

Now, I own an Asrock board (sadly). While it’s not the best board I’ve owned, it certainly does what is supposed to do. Given that, I will never buy another ASrock board again. Not because it’s a bad board, but because I originally bought this board to save me money.
