Just want to report my success before and after the vBIOS update for my Asus 3090 TUF OC since I see not so good results with the 3080s out there. I also questioned if I needed to update both the Silent and Performance BIOS. The answer is YES you do have to run the update for both, by manually switching over to your other BIOS to update each individually. I forgot to take a picture of my performance BIOS version before updating it, but I did capture the silent BIOS before and after. My experience went smooth on the Asus 3090 TUF OC.

I updated my Nvidia video drivers first to the latest one out today, reboot, updated vBIOS, then enabled Re-sizeable BAR option in my MSI x570 BIOS.

Hope this helps some of you wondering the same needs to be done on other 3000 series with dual BIOS.

Just a tad, but could also be a placebo effect since the performance increase are so minuscule in most cases. Probably helped in the low 1% FPS or minimum framerates. Just going by feel at first, frametimes seems a bit smoother than before. I prefer smooth as possible frametimes in my gaming experience. Red Dead Redemption 2 for instance I play with a 90FPS cap with a mix of high and Ultra settings and the game now seems to be able to stay between 85-90FPS more often during nighttime which usually tanks my FPS closer to 80FPS in certain areas of the game. Daytime in the game is always rock solid 90FPS. I'm sure Youtube will have metrics out to the public pretty soon to compare for ourselves.

I might have the updated vBios for my Strix but I won't update because I doubt the performance uplift is worth the risk. This could be improved in the future but I just have this feeling this is more marketing gimmick at the moment.

There are some gains on a game to game basis for sure. Frametime and smooth gaming experience is important to me. So the closer I can maintain a stable FPS closer to my FPS cap limit the better. In my experience, I've never had a bad flash yet whether firmware or BIOS *knock on wood* so this was no different.

Forgot to mention my RDR2 results is with Ultrawide 3440x1440p resolution.

Hi Nexium, I wonder if you could help me figure out which bios file to flash. My perf mode bios version according to gpu-z is 94.02.26.48.5D and silent mode bios is 94.02.26.48.5E (the silent mode bios is the same as yours).

When I try to just execute ASUS's rtx3090-v3.exe file it tells me I don't need to update vbios, so I figured I'd have to extract and do it manually. But reading the testini.txt file I can't find my bios version numbers. They all end in ASxx eg 94.02.26.48.AS09.

There are quite a few different files with the same first part - 94.02.26.48. How did you know which one to flash?

Thanks very much - I've not flashed an nvidia card since the 8800GT..

You shouldn't have to do anything manually. I simply downloaded it from Asus support and just ran the EXE. Are you sure you downloaded for the correct version of your 3090 from Asus support? For instance, the Asus TUF 3090 there is a OC and a non-OC version.

Thanks. I did google the error message and it seems a few 30 series cards were having the same issue. I actually dug the box out of my cupboard to make sure I had the right card model!

In the end I got impatient and googled the bios version and found the relevant techpowerup page for that bios file eg https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/225746/asus-rtx3090-24576-201013

The 'BIOS internals' section of that page has the version number as shown by gpu-z, and the 'AS' version number, as found in testini.txt in the unzipped rtx-3090-v3.exe, and allowed me to figure out which files to use.

After flashing with nvflash, the version number in gpu-z match those in the images of the first post of this thread. All went smoothly thankfully. It's dual bios so how bad could it be? o_O

Not sure what the reason is for the 3090-v3.exe not working. Maybe i should have disabled afterburner first, or maybe something else. Asus certainly don't give any clues on their download page!

Sorry to hear your bad experience. Yeah, those model numbers are so alike. But, yes I do close apps like afterburner, rivatuner, and even Nvidia control panel or anything I think that may interfere. Unless we have an option and instructions from the manufacturer to go into some sort of safe mode or back in the day DOS to do it, I'd strongly suggest taking all precautions if running bios or firmware updates in Windows.

What is the best OC/tweaker app for this card (TUF-3090-OC)?
I have tried Tweaker II, but it is probably the worst software I have ever used (and I am over 50 so I have seen a lot of bad software).

I agree Asus software suites is bad. Ironically MSI has the same bad rep with their motherboard software suite, but their video card software MSI Afterburner is actually good so I stuck with MSI Afterburner and call it a day. It's not impervious to issues from time to time in some games which cause crashes to desktop in the past but will eventually get fixed and has a big community following so support is there. I also like EVGA Precision software too which was pretty good with my EVGA 1080ti, but I like how Rivatuner is integrated with MSI Afterburner so went with that instead

I personally don't see that much more benefit to OC the 3090 since it's junction memory temps are getting pretty hot towards 86C - 90C on average already even in my well ventilated case. You'll just end up hitting lower boost clocks or throttling sooner and not much FPS to gain in games. If you plan to watercool it though, then it should be OC further. However, I did turn my power levels to the max 107% and just let the boost clock algorithm do its thing to give it a little more oomph.

I updated mine also the other day. Very impressed with the performance uplift.... I have the same card as OP...

No more judders in games from loading maps... The texture pop in is instant and hardly noticable. The memory subsystem is running way better now. This update is essential imo!!!!

I also have to agree, Afterburner is the best way to oc or just monitor your card. That and TechPowerUp's own GPU-Z as you can use it to monitor hot spots and wattage etc...

Hello. I ran into the same issue yesterday, and found the solution in other forum. You just need to have Asus GPU Tweak III running and the automatic update works just fine, as simple as difficult to figure out!. I assume you know you also need to enable resizable bar in motherboard's BIOS, boot in UEFI mode with compatibility module disabled (CSM) and have the latest gaming drivers.

I ran the vbios exe update file on my new 3090 TUF OC and I get a black screen (though signal is detected on DP). How long should this take? It’s been 20 minutes already. Dunno when it’s safe to reboot.

Is the blank screen happening during the update or at reboot?. If it is at reboot you might have bypassed anther step. To enable resizable bar you need to:

- Update graphics card BIOS
- Update mainboard BIOS if required
- Enable resizable bar at BIOS
- Disable CSM (compatibility module) at UEFI boot. This in time implies that your boot hard drive is partitioned as GPT instead MBR, and is critical for the system to work properly as resizable bar is enabled.
- Install latest graphics drivers (really the resizable bar starts at certain driver release but you can not be wrong with the latest ones)

I worked out it was a corrupted flash of the bios. I switched to quiet mode, disabled the card in device manager then reflash Ed using the extracted Rom and thankfully it’s all back and Resizable BAR enabled. Phew, and thanks for your help
